Can someone explain the PCGS numbering system

Can someone explain the basics of the numbering system, because I have no clue except the date and the grade and designations.
Thanks

If you're talking about the certification numbers, this was a question that was asked of Rick Montgomery in one of the Q&A's. His response was basically that it's just whatever number series happens to pop up next in the computer.

    xxxx.yy/zzzzzzzzz

Where x = PCGS coin number, y = numerical grade of the coin, and z = PCGS certification number.

PCGS coin numbers can be looked up HERE. The certification number is the number that happens to be on the submission form used for the particular coin, so there is really no order to them. If a form is not used, that form's number will never show up on a slab.

Flash has it explained very well except that there is no relation to the coin cert number and invoice submission number.

You're right.. my mistake. It doesn't make sense now that I think about it, especially with multiple submissions listed on one form. Duh! image
