  • The Horror!!! It looks like a coin autopsy.

I have no idea what it is or how it could happen. What's the deal with the coin? Where did you get it?

Found it at work a few years ago. Thought I lost it but just came across it tonight.
    Kinda cool though.

  • Maybe it`s part of a magic trick? I have a friend that has been doing magic as a hobby for about 20 years and that looks like something that you could find in a magic catalog. That`s the only thing I could think of.
  • That is REALLY cool.

It reminds me of those gadgets that spies and government agents carry. Like the pack of cigarettes that really is a 2-way radio. In this case it's a quarter that can carry top-secret information on a microchip; fitted snugly between the 2 halfs. I think I saw something like that on the History Channel. image

  • Maybe it's the old cigarette through the quarter trick?

I,m not sure thats one of those. This one seems to have the hole on the reverse to hide something or store something to retrieve.Lots of possiblities for coin magic with it I can see.
I have a `folding` quarter that I can cram into a beer or Coke bottle thats a neat trick.
Also some expanded/shelled Kennedy Halfs that an English Penny fits inside of nicely.
I was into a little coin magic just prior to getting back into coins as collector pieces.
I think the bigget thing in doing magic is presentation.,Saying funny stuff,or otherwise entertaining your audience is key.Once you know how the trick works,it will seem hoaky and therefore you MUST have a `good` presentation to make it all seem magical and entertaining.

...then again, maybe it was just a bored machinist at work? Pretty neat though.

..after looking at all the pics..I think it is a `cigarette-through-the-quater quarter.
I don`t have one of those.

A lay or is it lave....Anywho, these coins are usually made with two quarters...one each side.

    Spun, ground down...

There is a bit more to it but that is the jist.

That is if they are real quarters.

My favorite is the little drawer in the Cent...Saw one once would love to own one.
