Yeah - not saying anything negative about TBT - they're just dandy - and the coin is nice - but I'm just amazed at the price for a modern. Oh well - I guess if someone is willing to pay for it right?
very nice iridescent colors. Don't think I would have bid close to the highest price for that item though.

What would your slabbed coins be worth if the grading services went out of business? What would your coins be worth if the Internet was taken offline for good?
I saw this coin in person a few weeks ago at the Texas Coin Show. It was raw at the time and really is a stunner. As far as the price... we all know color is hot these days. I remember a proof 1982 Washington commem with amazing colors being sold earlier this year. Wasn't that a five figure coin?

Don't know if I would pay that much for a modern commem, but the toning is really special on that one. What I think makes it so cool is that the devices and fields toned so differently: It's almost like someone painted it to have that kind of color contrast. It rivals that neat George Washington commem someone posted a few months back.

The 1982 Washington commem was Supercoin's and sold for a little over a thousand dollars on ebay. Jack Beymer had it in his case at a couple of N. California shows and was asking $1850.
They both are great coins. Thanks for the comments! Had some serious offers on the commemorative off of eBay tonight plus I am showing it to a strong buyer in the morning so had to end it early and make sure it was not sold twice. That is a nightmare situation.
