Need a quick hand from someone who knows computers please

For some reason, my computer has ceased to play CD's. The speakers work, as Instant Messenger still makes moise that I can control witht he volume know. When I put a CD in, either through Windows Media Player or the system's basic CD player, I can see the seconds ticking away like it's playing, but no sound. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Go to "Start", then "Run", then type in "taskman", it'll bring up a list of programs in which the sound is currently in use, might need to close one of them. Another possibility is that the CD Volume is down. Click on the little volume thing in your taskbar, and check. That happened to me once.

yea.. do what Crunchy said.. and if that doesn't work buy yourself a decent soundcard.. that WAS a real answer..

Well, I'll be darned....after doing nothing but throwing in a CD so I could tinker with it, it suddenly started working again. I have no clue why. God I hate computers.
