Lesson learned: 1982 BU Washington commems are tough!!

Thanks for the education. I guess these are tougher than I thought.

The Proof 69 is $30 coin but the Unc is rare in 69 (MS68 is the functional equivalent for this coin)
    MS68s usually sell for $90+

pcgs price guide lists that coin in ms69 at $2150 and ms 68 at $150.
i think that price is too much but it has sold for more than that on ebay fairly recently.

This is a fair price in MS 68 although they can occasionally be had for less. In MS 69, current market is $1400 to $1600.

I collect modern high grade commems, and the PCGS daily price guide is way off on this one,
This issue has an incredibly high mintage, even with attrition and poor handling there are plenty of
68 pieces available. I think $119 is way too high, or not??, maybe I am wrong about this piece in BU?.

  • Brian,

I've been trying to pick one up for less than $90 for a couple of months but haven't had any luck.

They are very tough to make in 68 or better. I just went through 50 and picked the best two to send in. They were both 67s.

  • I thought about doing what Wayne did but don't have the time or motivation. I'll just be patient and pick up one for under ~$95 sooner or later. After hearing Wayne's results from a 50 lot, I'm glad I didn't bother.

$68!!!, Wow, maybe I was wrong about this coin. I see plenty at shows , I look at the BU specimens
in the green boxes, many look flawless, maybe I should have picked those up and sent them in.

    I've got a complete Unc Set all MS-69 except the 82 - it's a 67 image

I was #12, but somebody bumped us all down recently.

    I've made 2 67's and a 66 - can't find me no 68's.

BTW, if anybody wants to buy a #12 set PM me.

This is one coin where NGC is significantly looser than the other three major grading services. There's been dozens of NGC 69s on eBay in the past few months, while no PCGS, ICG, or ANACS 69s have shown up. Like others here, I've been submitting trying to fetch an elusive 69 with no luck. I took a chance on a PCI 69, but did not have much luck. If anyone out there has a 1982-D ANACS 69, I got some good money for you.

The first one graded MS 69 by PCGS came out about a year ago. It sold on Teletrade:

    FOR $5000 BEFORE BUYER'S FEE

Since then, I've been trying to make one. The pop is now up to 29 (if my memory serves me correctly). The 69s have been selling for $1300 to $1600 lately in the Teletrade and Heritage auctions (before buyer's fee).
