Very nice, are those PL? Those are hard to shoot.

Nice shots! I especially (and Dog, too) like the second one.

Great pics, and beautiful coins. They're definitely improving.

  • Nice Frank,

What are you using for lighting these days?
  • Now those are the kind of Morgans I love. Nice and frosty. The `93 is a ms65 and the `97 is a ms63 right? In the `93, is that blue toning are just a result of the flash?
  • Both the 97-S and the 98-O are NGC MS64DPL both are frosted and pretty nice for the grade. Depending on how you look at them you can tell that the chatter is there - but overall I'm very pleased with the quality.

Great pictures, was the 97-S as a rule weakly struck?

Are you serious on those grades? I had them pegged at 61 and 62, respectively. I guess I just can't grade Morgans - they all look bad to me I guess.

The '98 is bright white - as a matter of fact it took three shots to get this one - If you're talking about the reverse, that's actually my reflection (good thing it wasn't a tea pot huh! image )

From what I've read in the Wayne Miller's book, the 97S is usually well struck - but a lot of them were also flat struck with cloudy fields (many from the Redfield hoard). This one seems to be kinda in the middle - the strike isn't the greatest, but the cameo contrast is really nice, and the bagmarks aren't overwhelming.

Being such a big heavy coin, you'd be surpised that even 66's have dings and nicks. 64's as a general rule look pretty nice, but with DPL's you're always going to accentuate all the little marks - it's in the eye of the beholder I guess

I took these pics with two 100 watt reveal bulbs. Actually I was talking to someone who suggested a third or fourth light to get the best results, so I'm going to pick up an extra lamp and see how it goes - hope I don't blow out a breaker! image

Looks great!!! You got the cameo real well on these. In my own head I guessed 63dmpl on the 93 and gave dmpl64 on the 97 so pretty close. I have a couple dmpl64's that are cc.
