Howdy from the uh...er....uh.....GUY

Hey Guys! er uh.....and gals. How's it goin'? Cool.

Hey, I got my Bowers catalog the other day and I saw two cool coins. One, lot number 10, an uncirculated Pine Tree Shilling and the other a Maryland Lord Baltimore Shilling, also uncirculated. And the Maryland coin is the GUIDE BOOK PLATE COIN (! - Whoa!).

Is that cool er what?

Now, which is more desireable? And how much should a reasonably prudent person pay?

Oh, and one more thing. I have been picking up some really, really nice proof Barber Quarters (PF68 Cameo and PF68UC) and some really nice proof Seated Quarters (PR68CAM and PR66DCAM and PR66CAM). Like more than I've seen in a really long time.

Did someone have to make a margin call and have to unload some of these jewels?

Just curious.

Oh, and it's good to be back.

And the Maryland coin is the GUIDE BOOK PLATE COIN

Seriously, how much of a premium do Plate Coins get? Not just with colonials, but in any classical series... (I was thinking of, say, a Bolender, Overton, Logan-McClosky, etc., plate coin.)

I think I read an article recently about a bunch of the Lord Baltimore Shillings that turned up (maybe in England?) recently. I wonder if it's one of those.

And I certainly wouldn't mind finding a PR66CAM Seated Liberty quarter at an attractive price at the Baltimore show. Any chance of that, do you think? image I'm guessing that the prices are strong, though.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Welcome back, Adrian. You and your perspective had been missed around here...
  • Truth? I'll give you truth. It says in the Bible that if you have a beef with someone you should bring it privately to them. And only then, if they don't right the wrong, do you bring heat with you.

More truth: I'm built to attack. But here, that hurts me more than anyone. I'm trying to learn. I'm only 1/4 through this life gig, which gives me plenty of time to improve.

I'm curious about the years on the Barber Quarters. Maybe I'll just have to meander on over to your web sight and find out.

How about the 38 items of VDB memorabilia in lot 656? Included is a sketch of a proposed "Peace Dollar" (no naked chicks on this one).

    Hi uh...er....uh.....snake!
Your monster coins on eBay are really pretty but I'm seeing the same 97 Barber ½ auction after auction. Do you see any new 97 material in the future? I remember you listed a 97 Proof Morgan in 66 Cam last year. If you still have the pict could you post it here? Me & stiman would really like to see it. I was telling him how pretty it was.

  • I saw that memorabilia and the two colonials were just to throw eveyone off the trail. Just kidding. I want one of those colonials. It wold go well with my unc New Jersey piece.

People always ask me if there's any coin I wouldn't sell. And the answer is no, I love 'em but i want it to be a revolving harem. One wife, many coins.

But I always tell 'em, that New Jersey copper is like one of less than 10 uncs graded by PCGS and it was minted in the same county where I was minted. I'd sell that coin.

Speakin' of New Jersey, Laura's place is in the town next to the one I grew up in. She's in Lincroft and I grew up in Colts Neck. Neat place.

Yeah, that Victor David Brenner material looked really neat.

But, then I'd get really interested in Lincolns. I did buy some drop dead gorgeous Lincolns from Mr. Orsborn that will probably not get listed for a long time. And I do mean some really gorgeous pieces. Majestic toning. I think he has a few left. Not cheap but then again, is any really cool coin ever cheap?

Well, I've got a monster toned 1884 Seated Qtr in NGC Proof 68 that I want to list tonight so I may just be gone for a while I finish it up. I'm going to give many images of the obverse to demonstrate how lighting affects image appearances.

Please forgive me if I look like I'm trying to sell you my coins. I wasn't. I just wanted to share a little.

  • I'm glad to see you back as well Adrian. BTW, what ARE you going to do with that ACG MS67 Liberty nickel that was selling for a million bucks on E-bay? That was the single best public service announcement I've ever seen!

Welcome back Adrian! I hope you stick around this time...
Hey, why you were gone I was able to "make" a 1976 Clad Ike with PCGS at FA02.

I'm pretty pleased with that one.
    Other than that?

Welcome back. And, may you treat others as you wish to be treated- with respect. I hope you'll try to show a stronger sense of humility this time and tone down the arrogance. I think that is what turned some people off rather than a jealousy over your impressive coins. I know you will try to do this!

  • The Maryland plate coin can't be from the hoard that turned up in England. That hoard had been put away and forgotten for almost three hundred years. Kind of hard to have included a picture of one of them in the Redbook for the past couple decades.

Thanks for catching my oversight, Conder, I missed that remark about the Maryland being the Guide Book plate coin.
