The 1926 Sesquicentennial $2 1/2 Gold that got away

I made a few bids at the end but I wasn't aggressive enough to get it. I think it is a beautiful coin. This one looks nice for a MS64. ICG graded it and it looks like a fair grade. I know people here have complained about ICG modern coins being overgraded, but how about the older ones? I have a 1847 AU50 dollar graded by ICG that looks great. What are your experiences?

These are beautiful coins, but the very low relief makes the design difficult to see in general. For some reason Sinnock didn't appear to have much arm strength or something, everything he did seemed to be low releif.

heavycopper- I really like these little gold coins. I just sent one in to NGC that I cracked out of an ANACS ms63 holder and I am pretty sure it will come back a 64. Here's a picture obvers , reverse . mike image

yeah mike it did go cheap but do you think it really sold? How do you tell with a private auction? and do you think it would grade 64 at PCGS or NGC? mike image

Mike, I gave up a long time ago trying to figure grades on this coin. I have seen some really overgraded ones in both holders and then seen some nice ones, except for a tiny spot or ding get high grades. This one looks like it might have a shot.
  • Yep, I let it get away. I could have made a higher bid but didn't. The most I've ever paid for a coin was $500 for a 1960-D FBL MS65. That seems to be my limit utill I get more money. I like the one darktone has. That looks like a MS64 -No carbon spots or heavy marks.
