PLEASE PLEASE help me!! I need Buffalo Nickels & a lot of them!!

Dog97Dog97 Posts: 7,874 ✭✭✭
I know this should be on the BS&T Board but more people read this board.
Like an idiot I bidded a million dollars on an Anaconda auction. Anaconda auction I thought I was bidding a thousand dollars. I didn't notice the extra zeros.
The problem is that the seller only takes Buffalo Nickels in payments so I need 20 million Buffalo Nickels. I counted all the Buffalo Nickels on eBay and I'm still 19,998,424 short.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I can send you 22 coins. If he accepts no dates I can bump it to 32.

    Hope this helps.
  • I think I have 3 I can spare. Now you only need 19,998,389.

    Good Luck. image

I see Adrian still finds time to read the boards. I always enjoy his sardonic wit. OK, I know it is an acquired taste, but it always makes for a good read. Dog, how much would 20,000,000 Buffalos weigh?image

  • I wouldn't sweat it, Dog.

I think in the end Anaconda will decide he'd rather keep the MS70 Liberty nickle rather
than deal with all those Buffalo's.

I predict he will cancel your bid and call off the auction before it closes.

If not, I do have half a roll or so to help out.

Just call any bank in Buffalo, New York. I am sure they can order you in 20 million "BUFFALO" nickels no problemmo. Be sure to tell em you want em dropped shipped to Adrian!

  • Wow, that is a lot of nickels! When I first read that auction I didn't read the bottom so missed the part about payment in cash (Buffalo nickels) only. Sorry, I don't have any to send you but if I run across some lower grade ones they are yours...

The ones with three legs are lighter and should cost less to ship.
  • I have a few I can throw into the mix,my 37-D 3 legged though is going to have to stay put.

Hey thanks for the help so far! image
This aint gonna be as easy as I thought, I'm still gonna be about 19½ million short. I think Anaconda Coins is asking the impossible, there wasn't even 20 million Buffalo Nickels minted were there?
BAJJERFAN has a good idea with his <<Just call any bank in Buffalo, New York. I am sure they can order you in 20 million "BUFFALO" nickels........>> Heehe, he didn't specify Indian Head 5¢ in his listing. Maybe I can get him on a technicality.

I don't know why you screwed up like this, Dog. This is about the average price for an Anaconda coin. I'd gripe that it isn't toned, though.
  • Dog97Dog97 Posts: 7,874 ✭✭✭
Why did I screw up? It was all those zeros I tell you. I'm not used to dealing with more than 2 zeros after the first number. There were 8 zeros. Who does this guy think he is with all those zeros in his listing, Mike Byers?

Well Dog97, I gave my Grandaughter some buff nickles that she treasures so much that she got from her favorite Grandpa, me.

But if your in a real jam I guess I could talk to her and see if she will part with them. Then she would have nothing to remember me by but thats ok, etc. etc.imageimage

Dog: I was going to send you one extra one I had. It was nice and shiney too, but as I was putting it in the nice thin paper envelope, I noticed it had a D on it and the date was kind of screwed up. There was this thing that looked like a 7 under the 8, so I just threw it in the trash! Sorry I couldn't help. It was the only one I had.

You guys kindness just overwhelms me! (dog wiping tear from eye)
Maybe Caitlin will donate her high priced copper pattern Buff 5¢, it should = at least several thousand regular Buff nics.
Cam40 I could really use those Proof Morgans to sweeten the pot. You're a great guy!
I'm getting desperate here I've scoured Yahoo, msn auctions and some place called ubid and I'm still about 18 million nickels short.
If I can't meet his TOS I may get a negative feedback.

Hmmm..nobody else? Maybe I can get some help from the grading service that put the coin in the slab. Don't slabs come with grade guarantees where they will give you money or buy the slab back?

If you can't get the nickels you had better cancel your bid before closing - ANACONDA will get charged $15,013.12 in final value fees even if the sale is not completed - just say you did not read all of the fine print on payment options.
  • He'll probably get away with that one, sinin1. Good suggestion.

Big sneakysnake I'm having a BIG problem locating 20 million Buffalo nickels to pay you with. I found out wheat pennies are lot more easier to find. Can I pay you with them? You like wheat pennies don't you?

  • Dog,

I have about 15 no-daters I could send your way. I would even put some acid on the dates to make the numbers bigger. I wouldn't even charge a handling charge. Although i could get an ACG AG70 Buffalo nickel - wouldn't that be worth at least three regular Buffalos?
  • cladkingcladking Posts: 28,647 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have 80 or 90 rolls of partial dates somewhere that you can have cheap ($7.80 / roll).
and have six rolls of higher grade better date that should easily be worth $22 / roll.
A few of the partial dates are culls and a few are better dates. PM or send a check.
Deduct 5% if you take 'em all

    Hope this helps.

My coin buds are so cool!
I just got off the phone with some guy that is spose to be the President/CEO/Owner/Grader of Another Coin Garbage service.
His name was Smilin Alyin or something like that. I explained my plight to him, he was very nice & pleasant sounding, I could just picture him with a big toothy grin from ear to ear. He chuckled & laughed when I asked about a grade guarantee like PCGS & NGC has.
He chuckled and said something about I could take a flying.....I didn't understand what he said so I said "Do what?" He said something about he hoped I got kissed because I sure got..........I couldn't make out his last words because he was laughing loudly. I said "Excuse me, do what?" Then I heard a CLICK & the line went dead.
Then I went and sat on my ceramic throne to ponder my predicament and I heard the phone ring but I let my voice mail take it because I was really pondering my predicament.
Anyway it was the Law Firm of Dewey, Scruem, & Howe Esq! They left a message that said if I didn't cease and desist from bothering, aggrevating, and slandering with slanderous libel the President/CEO/Owner/Grader of Another Coin Garbage service & picking my butt in public they were going to come visit me late one night and we were going to go "for a ride." Then they said if I told anybody about it their conversation never occured.
    I'm getting slightly concerned!

  • Dog,

Just so you know, the 1936-P Buffalo nickel was the largest mintage, with 119,001,420 coins minted. There are plenty out there, but you are going to have to corner the market on these things. image

  • I'm sorry to hear about your plight and will try to help you out as much as I can. My own quandary revolves around trying to decide if it is easier to just ship them to you in their plastic holders or if I should take them out and roll them for you? I almost said roll them TO you but that would take forever and I'm sure there is a time limit you have to pay him by. I wonder how many revolutions a nickel would make if you had to ROLL it for a whole mile?

Have you asked if it is $1 million in face value or if it is $1 million in numismatic value? That could save you a lot of searching, sorting, wrapping and begging even. This may be his secret way of moving into the Buffalo nickels' market without letting the word out and driving up prices. This may work once but after this one blaze of glory I fear it would be hard to duplicate again.

I already thought of that snake says: <<Five cents credit for evey buffalo nickel that is delivered to me>>
I've been getting letters through eBay. The Secret eBay Police are teling me that it severely overgraded and I should cancel my bid. You guys really think the grade is wrong by 63 numerical points?
This aint looking good. I'm getting worried.

  • Dog97,

There is a slim chance the coin would grade GD-06, but there are NO letters of Liberty. The rims were pretty full though, so it may only be 61 points overgraded, not 63. image

you could double the number of buffalo nickels you have by cutting each of them in half. of course, half of them would then be "dateless", & even nic-a-date couldn't help.....

  • I know a guy in Texas that has a real buffalo and he will sell it to you. Of course I don't know if that counts and the shipping of a 1.5 ton Buffalo might be more than a nickle........ Let me know what you decide.

I just can't locate that many Buff 5¢!! It's impossible. I've emailed the seller to see if I can pay with wheat pennies instead. I keep a dozen 55 gallon drums of them buried in the back yard to sell on ebay as Estate Sales. He's just ignoring me though. When I call on the phone his secretaries says he's out of town, his wife says he's in China checking the price of rice and his mother says he's out in the yard playing.
He's just waiting to slam me with a NEGATIVE and ruin my life and put an end to my perfect record & eBay career.
    This is really looking bad.

  • Any chance they'd accept buffalo chips? I know a guys with a never-ending inventory of them. They're light for shipping once they dry out and could be cut up to the size of a nickel.
