    Try putting Rare or Scarce and L@@K in the title image

    Seriously the other auction has better pictures,less shipping price and states a full refund if not satisfied.

    Well you asked, so I am going to give you my opinion having purchase several lincolns off ebay.image Your picture leaves a lot to be desired whereas his you can tell what you are getting. Red lincolns can be all over the board as to color and strike, carbon spots etc. Put up some pictures that tell the buyer what he is bidding on.
  • Try posting front and back LARGER images. Personally i no longer bid on smal / no image auctions as many are trying to hide something. I suspect thats what most savy buyers do as they have been burned?

    I tend to bid on auctions that start at 1.00 or face value more often than one that starts at a highewr price like yours. In my experience selling, I have also found that many other buyers also do the same. don't ask me why, maybe because buyer's feel they are getting a better deal if it starts low. Just my opinion. I didn't notice the high shipping until someone else pointed it out. I never bid on items where the shipping is more than 4.00.

    BigDave,

    I looked at both your listing and the competing listing to see if I could come up with an explanation for you. These are the possibilities that occur to me: 1) his heading sounds a bit more excting (I'm not saying this is always a good thing but I'm looking for possibilities here); 2) he has a number of images compared to your one obverse image and I believe that his image quality is better; 3) you have a "buy it now" price, which I actually think puts a cap on potential bids and often makes potential buyers think the coin must be worth less than that. This is just my take on it but I wanted to try to give you some possibilities. Good luck in the last few hours.

    hey dave

    i'll give you one clue-----your shipping charges are OUTRAGEOUS to say the least. and although someone could buy your coin for less even with the HIGH shipping cost, some, me included, will not bid on it.

    to put it into my thinking terms, it's a rippoff when a seller MAKES money on the shipping and insurance. you're charging $8 for a service that is only costing you $3 tops. i know it doesn't make sense in the long run when you add everything up, but i'd wager that if you listed shipping at cost you would have biggers.

    as always, i may be wrong and the snipers are probably waiting. but with those HIGH shipping costs you shouldn't be surprised!!!!image

  • I have found YOU HAVE TO SELL YOUR COIN. Yes a coin will sell on its own merit if the right buyer stumbles upon it BUT adding in a good description, some pop figures, price guide figures, or whatever else makes it special or attractive helps a lot.

    Its like anything else, if you are selling a car and someone comes to see it are you going to just point them in the direction of where its parked and go back to what you were doing?

    You can hype something without lying.

    A lot of Ebay buyers are lazy or just do not know. There is nothing wrong with educating them a bit.

    Good Luck

    Edited to add; That shipping is out there. There is no reason or need to send a $50.00 coin registered. I know shipping & Insurance costs have gone up but it could be shipped USPS Insured for about $2.50 to $3.00

    I Can Not Say It Is Rare It Has A pcgs population Of 757 and 92 higher I have tried to scan .it does not work , I can not get a close up With My Camera. all my lincolns are bright red and no carbon spots .except for 4 of them and i wont even sell them..

    Bikingnut nailed the primary reason. A $1 opening generates bids early, which helps build momentum, which frequently translates in to competition among multiple bidders.

    But, as the others said, the second auction also has better scans.

  • I just bought from Strat a 1952 cent PR66 RD so you shouldn't have much of a problem selling it as these wheat cents look great in high grades.

    I do Not Make A penny On shipping All My Coins Are Sent Registered Mail With Ins And Tracking ..and If You Buy 1 or 30 coins It Is the Same Price
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
    It is complete overkill to send a coin of this value by Registered Mail. You really should re-think that approach.

    Yep, what the others said:

    * Crappy picture
    * Too high starting bid
    * Outrageous shipping charge

    = no bids.
  • PlacidPlacid Posts: 11,299 ✭✭✭
    And no return policy listed.

    Note also that he bought the coin for $30:

    I Thank You All For Your Imput I Will Try All Your Suggestions on my Next Listings
  • The pictures are important but, with a good description and a good return policy on a coin of that caliber you pictures could be good enough. You need to tell them how good the color and luster is, there are no carbon spots or fingerprints. Apologize for the crappy pic and guarantee their satisfaction.

    There is no reason or need to send a $50.00 coin registered (over kill). I know shipping & Insurance costs have gone up but it could be shipped USPS Insured for about $2.50 to $3.00.

    Straight postage, a slab can be sent in a bubble-envelope for 60c + $1.30 for insurance = $1.90 (for a $50 coin). I don't know why so many sellers insist on Priority Mail -- it's at most a day or two faster, and often the same speed as regular first class. Of course, lots of sellers like to factor in a "handling" expense, but I generally consider that just a cost of doing business.
  • OuthaulOuthaul Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
    I agree with Flaminio...I've found him extremely fair with his shipping. I'd definately be turned off by an $8.00 shipping fee. I find that, on average, it costs me around $3.00 to ship a coin valued under $50.00.

    Cheers,

    Bob
  • I'll chime in with some others. The $8 shipping charge is very high for a coin starting off at about $25. I recommend offering several shipping options like First Class or Priority. Since the shipping charges are born by the buyer, I would let them choose the shipping method (and shipping costs they want to pay).

    I know the above might sound like a small thing, but I will not bid on auctions with excessively high shipping charges. Good luck with your auctions.

    Dave I wouldn't bid on yours because i wouldn't want to to pay $8 for shipping. You can mail it insured which would cover us both for $2 or so.
    I wouldn't bid on the other guy's auction either because he's an a$$hole. Look at his feedback; leaves NEGATIVE feedback after only 3 day on a $2 Nazi coin? He must be a Nazi.
    The Nazi seller has a better title that draws more lookers to his auction.
    Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    Yeah $8 shipping on a $25 coin? no wonder you are not getting bids. For comparrison I just sent a package of gold coins registered insured for $3,600 with tracking for $18 !! Sorry I hope I don't come off as being too hard on you- I just want to stress how much that affects bidders. Also a little trick for your camera that is not capable of taking good close up pictures is to take 7X-10X loupe and tape it to the end of your camera lens for some close up pictures( I know it sounds crude but it really works! ). Good luck image mike

    Yes, the registered shipping is just ridiculous and a real turn off.

    Charge $4.00 for shipping, send it first class insured and it'll cover your listing and final vaue fees.

    Plus your picture sucks and your listing has nothing to do with the item, only tells of your other auctions. You are trying to sell a coin on a bad image only.

    This listing seems more like an ad for your other auctions, which of course nobody will look at because of your outrageous shipping charges.

    But you have heard all of it above.

    Okay. I will endulge with the rest. $8.00???!!! That is a HUGE joke! I know of an ebay seller who sells items for $1.00 and then charges $5.00 for shipping and then $4.00 for insurance. No combining shipping, no nothing. In conclusion, that is how this guy makes his money. I bought from him once and will never do it again. Seeing your auction reminds me of that even though you say buy one or all. But, just what if I only wanted that one coin. I still would not bid on it now because of that charge.

    Here are two auctions from same seller, for a 2001-S PCGS PR69DCAM Silver Kennedy half. No pictures, $1 start with no reserve and $1 shipping. One ends middle of week for $23 other ends on a Friday night for $51. That's the ONLY difference between the two auctions! I just made one of these on my last submission... dunno if I should make my BIN $25 or $50 tho image
