Grade and Trade in the Shade

Now I understand if you work 100+ hours a week, never heard of EBAY and want to make space in your kitchen drawer by selling those cards of some guy named Mantle, that Grade and Trade might be for you. Otherwise why would anybody use them? Anyone know:

1. What do they charge and how soon do they pay after the auction?

2. Do they reject cards they think won't sell?

3. Any experience with re-submits through them: e.g. I break out my PSA 7 and they get an "8" [it helps that Barry Halper owns G & T]

4. Can you lose money with them: e.g. after grading fees, their cut and the EBAY fees, could I sell my card with them and then have to send them a check!image

Thanks Jeff. This seems to imply that PSA operates Grade and Trade since they advise you to send your cards directly to PSA. Again my question, will G & T roll my nice PSA 7 Mantle into an "8"? Big bucks involved and if PSA is G & T....hmm.image

  • G&T and PSA aren't the same company, and PSA doesn't own any part of G&T. You send to PSA so that time and money are saved. I think that this causes enough confusion that PSA should break all ties with G&T. You should send your stuff to G&T, G&T should send it to PSA, PSA should send it back to G&T, and G&T should sell it. Same as any of us could do.

I've been looking over their website and can't find anything about them taking a cut of the final selling fee. Even if you print out the submission form, all it says is they pay you the auction proceeds, minus ebay listing fees and Paypal fees. Also, you pay $15 to have the card graded.

Bruce...I agree...to remove any hint of collusion, they should have separate addresses.

Rick.....what if your card sells for $12. Subtract their $15 fee + EBAY fees + Paypal fees and someone loses $!!image

From what I could see, you pay the $15 grading fee up front, before the card gets auctioned. So yes, you can lose money when the whole process is finished. I'm just trying to find where G&T makes their money, other than possibly a cut of the grading fee. If they take a % of the sale price (which I assumed they did) , I can't find it anywhere.

  • I believe that they charge $7.50 per card regardless of what it sells for.

Good point Rick. If they just get the $15 flat fee, how can they make any profit. In addition to the Grading fee, who pays for the EBAY fees? EBAY gets a percentage of the final selling price...which on a $2000 card would be $41.21! They don't mention anything about that on their FAQ list.image

  • Hi Guys,

Grade and Trade is also doing the same with Global (GAI). There is a GAI Grade and Trade which works the same as Grade and Trade. Why would someone pay the same fees to have their cards graded by GAI and put on Ebay? From my experiences as a seller on Ebay, PSA goes for much more than GAI. email: gai@gradeandtrade.com.
