Weird Lincoln Mint Mark?

MrLeeMrLee Posts: 1,847 ✭✭✭
I've had this 1954 S for a while and never knew what to make of it. I'm hoping some of you Lincoln experts might have seen this before or know what it is. There's an extra something along side the mint mark but I can't quite tell what it is. Sorry the close-up isn't better.

Maybe a chipped die? or a strike thru? Maybe Dog97 can tell for sure.

Its strange. It doesnt really look like a RPM or OMM.
I guess it was a damaged die maybe.

Thats pretty cool.I can see how you could say its an `added` J.
    Little known variety?
Another possiblity is a ` struck-through dropped filling`.The filling of a grease/dirt- filled digit or letter can sometimes pop out and land on the die somewhere, then get struck-through and appear in an odd place.

This might be a `struck-through partial dropped filling` or something

It is a die chip. It has been known for quite some time. It was listed in all five editions Major variety and oddities beginning at least in the mid 1960's.
