let me ask you something..........

i am giving a junior coin collectors club kids like ages 6 to 16 a coin test on colonial coins and then an essay in november and am going to ask for the tests back in dec meeting it is the junior club of the regular coin club

i started going to the junior club and it is fun with the kids and they ask many questions and for me with waht i know about coins usa i usually have the answers

i passed out all my small stuff to the kids and i am going to give prizes for the best essay and coin teat i already made up it took me hours as i had to make it brief and spelling correct and all that jazz

now some parents are already on my back about how it will be graded and the smaller kids not knowinb too much.....lol

just like the parents in little league they are worse then the kids.lol

that is why i am going to hav e the kid put his first name and age on the test after i get them back i am going to grade them and read the essays and i think evetyone willt ry thier best especially so on the 200 or less word essay about any coin toipc that you want to talk about

then i am going to say legit...... that all were great and all will get first prise as i think they all were first!!!! i need like 33? prises can someone have some

stuff they want to send me for prises? oh like maybe a slabbed smaple coin or a sm]labbed stare quarter or anything nice to give a kid? even coin stuff like supplies or wahtever

i will try my best to get the kids who are the prez of the clubs to send you a thank you for your donation gift

well i want this to be easy and hope i am not opening a can of worms here pm me and let me know if you would like to send me something as a prise and i will give you my mail, address

i will pass it all out to the kids it should be fun i hope unless i am getting myself into more of a mess but i guess it is a first time for me and i wikll try and see waht happens! and if in the end everyone hates me oh well.....lol i wuill then not do it again.....lol

    Michael,

First, please edit your post so that your question appears much earlier on AND is easy to find, or a lot of people might miss it! image

Second, I'll come up with something, I promise.
  • Michael, I've got 6 or 8 PCGS sample dime slabs if you can use them!

I can send something along. Shoot me an address via PM, and I'll see what I can come up with.
One note, I wouldn't "grade" the reports from the kids, but rather acknowledge the accomplishment. Depending on the age of the kids, grading can be a downer for some. image

Michael: I think you should email Rick Montgomery/David Hall and Mark Salzburg/David Lange and ask for contributions to the cause. I 100% expect that you will receive some very nice prizes and I ask that you post their responses on the forum!

Thanks for being active in this - we all appreciate it! image

Michael: What about Coin World/ NN or some of the coin magazines sending out a complimentary issue to each of the kids (unless they share the issues they get)?

Even if the issue is a few weeks or months old (surplus stock).

I have found that the younger kids might enjoy an wheat cent, a buffalo nickle and a mercury dime goes over real well!

Some of them might actually spend them too!!!!!

I might suggest that a kid under 12 might not appreciate the slabbed samples yet as much as the teens?

Seems like having kids write essays would take a lot of the fun out of collecting.
  • Michael,
I will be mailing a package to you tomorrow, also. It is coming priority mail, so look for it in 3-4 days.

It's truly a shame that a worthy post/cause like Michael's, gets so little attention compared to some of the other "more exciting" threads here. So, to the top with it again!

Sounds good michael but if I may make a suggestion don't make them write any essays. Coin collecting is sposed to be fun not remind them of school. They should see collecting as a means of escaping teenage pressures and the miserable world around them. Make it True/False or multiple choice instead.
