It probably would take a little time as well.
  • I know this is your version of a type set, but was wondering a few things while looking through the list and don't want to sound too negative after reading my post over.

What about the Draped Bust, Small Eagle quarter? And the 37-D Buffalo? If it's included, then why not the 22 plain Lincoln, the 79 Wide Rim SBA, the Millenium & Goodacre Sacs? If I were building a type set, I would see no need to break up the clad coinage like you did with the Kennedy's. And if you include the Bicentennial pieces, the silver issues should also be represented I would think. Didn't see the Silver Eagles included either but I might have missed them somewhere.
  • Its a 144 because you left out the Silver American Eagle. You only state a Silver commemerative.

A lot of food for thought in this post! Every type collector tends to develop a customized list of required types, and the list inevitably expands over time. On your list, one that I would view as "essential" that is missing is the copper nickel with shield Indian Head Cent.

I don't see much need to add the sample modern commems to the type collection.

On the other hand, I would love to have an 1839 Gobrecht dollar (with obverse stars). There are endless other possibilities (Booby head cent, without drapery 50 c etc).

One thing I'm sure of -- major versus minor types is an interesting topic, but we'll never arrive at a consensus!

OK, well maybe you need a few more.

If you follow along with your Redbook this will give you every major design (and the $1 Silver Eagle was an oversight - so that's 144)

Take for example the Draped Bust Half Cent 1800-1808.

    There is the 1st Reverse/2nd Reverse/Plain 4/Crosslet 4/Stemless Wreath/Stems to Wreath/Spiked Chin/Small 5/Large 5/Small 6/Large 6/1808,8 over 7...

or is it better to just have one 1800-1808 Draped Bust Half Cent and move on to the next category? You can come back and get those after you have the other 143.
