My GUESS is MS67. The reverse is great, just the few spots on the obverse

  • Wow Russ, where'd you find that one? I need to know where your coin shops are... image

I think it looks high 65 to me, very very PQ, stretching to 66.

Well, I like Luvdawgs and Morris - EDIT: and Ursabear and Relayer - but Placid is a meanie.

The thumb is not close to being split. Stars weak in flowing flag. Die striations on fields on obverse right side. However, a lovely lustrous and very clean looking coin.

    I too grade it 65 to 66.

If the triangle shape on the knee and the washed out part to the right of that and around the waist and the weakness in parts of the feathers are from strike the I will change to 64.

It is, indeed, an MS64. Typical weak S mint strike. Grabbed it on Teletrade, discussed in this thread.

I'm building my short set in MS64, and it's pleasing and yet difficult to find them in that grade with this much luster. Because of that, I seem to go quite a long time between purchases.

  • If it's for sale i'd say AU-58 but if not then it looks like a nice MS-64 walker

I think when you get to sell it it will get sold for 65 money no matter what the grade assigned to that coin. The luster is too tremendous for anyone to let it slip as a 64 again. This is despite the typical weakness in strike.

Agreed. It is the "feel" of a 65-66, even if it is a technical 64.

By the way, that is not fair!!!!!! That is a first generation PCGS holder and that coin would certainly go into a 65 holder for sure today!!

In fact, I will put my money where my mouth is....I will pay you full 65 money for that coin right now just the way it is.

Yeah, it's a nice baby rattle. Turned almost completely around in the slab to boot!image

EDIT: Most of the coins in my short set have similar luster. That's why it's taking so long to complete it.

careful!! Don't let it rattle anymore or I will withdraw my offer.

I hate too many teeth marks on those rattles.

  • Now - if I could just get my replicator operational, I could just get a copy of that Walker to add to my blue boxes. Problem is, the parts aren't available for a few hundred years.
If you keep going the way you're going with the short set, Russ, you might qualify for personalized slabs!

Russ, you keep buying those walkers the way you are doing and you will NEVER BE SORRY.

Some of the best values versus beauty and popularity of the coin in the hobby today.

    My hat off to you.

Who says a collector cannot find beautiful coins at the right price?

Russ..one other thing NEVER reslab that coin even if you think you can get the 65 grade. The old slab(s) makes the set even more interesting.

    Russ,

Very nice looking Walker. I also just picked up a 1945 Walker for my short set (pictures attached below) and feel it has a shot at MS65. However, my goal is a MS64 short set, so I probably will leave it along. It doesn't have the luster of yours, so maybe it won't upgrade if I tried. I am pretty happy with it, and it is the first one for my short set.

    Geoman,

VERY nice Walker. Clean fields and a much stronger strike than mine (normal, since it's a P mint). I'd also guess it has more luster than shows in the pic - it's tough to capture with a scanner.
