Mel Harder

I know that this is not the place to post this, but I wanted to give some feelings about someone.

Mel Harder, the second winniest pitcher in Cleveland Indians history died this week at the age of 93. He lived in my home town, where I still reside.

Joe DiMaggio stated that he could never hit off of Mel. Mel stated that one of the hardest hitters that he had was Lou Gehrig, but not Babe Ruth, who hit him fine.

Mel had, I think 13 plus scoreless innings in the 20's.

Mel had a great sinker and should have been voted into the Hall of Fame. He pitched the first game in the old Cleveland Stadium. He also threw out the last pitch in that stadium when they moved to Jacobs Field.

I have pictures of my son standing next to Mel showing my son how to hold the ball. A classic that I will always treasure.

Our town built Mel a baseball field with his name on it.

I plan on going to calling hours tomorrow, since it's only a block away.

All who treasure the classic people should petition or write to have Mel put into the Hall of Fame.

Thanks,

Dale B. Wedge
