Body bags

MarkMark Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭✭✭
Everyone here has read about and/or experienced a PCGS body bag. However, postings about body bags from other services are rarely encountered. So, I am wondering, do other services have body bags or do they slab the coin and describe any problems? And do you have any experiences with body bags from other encapsulating services?

From what I understand, NGC body bags about as much. Some of the lesser grading services appear-acg to not be as discriminating-acg.

I very rearely submit to NGC, but of the five or so coins I have, only one has been bb'd.

Yup- my dealer showed me some NGC body bags- a few very lightly cleaned commems and then some colonials, which NGC doesn't slab.

If anyone needs some NGC bodybags, I've got some coming to me in the mail. 3 of 5 coins submitted (2 I was pretty sure would be bagged, but the other got bagged for AT and I cut it from a proof set). image

Right now NGC is as quick at BBing a coin as PCGS. Same with ANACS (net grade slab, not BB). Now is not a good time to be submitting questionable coins.

Does ANACS body bag anything? ICG? SEGS? And, as others have mentioned, ACG?

    Mark,

You'll never get PVC in a net slab from ANACS- I don't think AT will get in, either.

PVC and counterfeit are the only things that will get an actual BB from ANACS. All others will get a net grade slab. However, some altered coins will also get a BB instead of anet grade.

OK, is anyone the proud possessor of a body bag from ICG, SEGS, or ACG?

I had a nice large cent bagged by ngc for cleaning. I sold the coin raw to a dealer, and off it went to ngc......ms/63 rb!!!!!!!! I was flippin' steamin' image
Had a couple of bags from anacs, too. A counterfeit indian head cent, which was really strange, as it wasn't a rare date or anything, maybe a $100 coin, if authentic. One mercury dime bagged for active pvc.
A couple of submissions ago to ngc I had a couple of buffalo nickels come back with the dreaded au/58 grade. I can assure you I wasn't looking for an au designation on those two coins!!!

GOOD LORD. Who in their right mind would AT a beautiful AU 1799 S$1? It's one thing to screw with a generic MS63 Morgan, but that is destroying a serious piece of history. imageimageimageimage

    Big D5,
I had a similar funny experience. Bought a large cent from a local dealer as AU58 brown. Almost no contact marks. Could not find any trace of cleaning or wear. It got BB'd by PCGS for harsh cleaning (freakin' nuts) but was designated MS, RB. I sold it back to the same dealer for 2X as an MS63RB. He sent it to NGC - bingo, MS64RB image

Does ACG keep any BodyBags in stock image
  • I've sent coins off to NGC and all were slabbed. Sorry to hear some of the bad luck others have had. Remember the grading companies are not gods. Their grade or body bag verdict are not final. You just need to know what a good coin looks like for the grade. If you know the coin is good, wait a few months and send it in again. I'm going to have NGC regrade a Franklin they gave a MS64. I know it is better.
  • I have about 10 different BB varieties listed. I have BB's from ACG, ANACS, ICG, NGC, PCGS, and PCI. Nothing from SEGS. It's difficult to get Body Bag information since people tend not to keep the Body Bags and just sell off the coins raw without the BB's.

I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR BODY BAGS GUYS!. Especially if you can give me information about when they were submitted.
