PCGS: We Said We Loved It & Now You've Taken It Away?

braddickbraddick Posts: 23,970 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think it pretty well goes unspoken we loved the idea behind the "Question/Answer" Forum PCGS started with Rick Montgomery fielding questions.

Now the Forum is empty and has been for quite a few days now (turning into weeks).
Is there any chance of 'bringing it back'?
Maybe it could also be opened up to allow other representatives of PCGS and/or Collectors Universe to take questions?

I just hate to see such a winning formula fade away, unused, when it started out as being such a great success.
Am I wrong here?

I think appearances are deceiving. Had PCGS(Rick) answered ALL questions I would agree that it could be called a great success.

If I am not wrong on this I thought Carol did make mention that the questions and answers would take place again and she would announce when it would be.
I thought she mentioned something like it being once a month ? not sure...

The Q&A Forum isn't empty - all the questions Rick answered are still there. You probably have your customization options set to display 30 days of threads in a category which is why you don't see them any more.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I have mine set for 365 days of history and I only see one message from Carol. Otherwise it seems empty to me.

Rick is going to answer questions once a month.

Once a month is cool- I guess. I wish it would open up to other members of the PCGS Team and the variety of questions answered (even though that aren't as popular) would be accepted and posted.

The concept is killer- it's the execution that is somewhat lackluster.

I sure hope he answers ALL the legit questions, instead of skipping some for political reasons. <cough>PR70s<cough>

What other type of questions are you referring to, customer service dept type questions?

Sure. That and possibly questions that fall outside the realm of Rick's field of knowledge- like submittal questions and the such.

Also, possibly the Graders could get involved so as to free Rick up a bit and not place him under such an obligation of fielding 100+ questions all at once.
It would also allow for follow-up questions to the answers provided, so as not to be formatted- one question- one answer, move on.

It's a great learning tool, both for us and PCGS. I'd like to see it used frequently.

A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."

Well I tell you what Braddick..........

For about a year I've been been harping about using Sample Slabs or coins for PCGS's Error Service in Registry Sets. You see I've paid a lot of $$ for these error coins and the Sample Slabs are really unusual, more so than a MS67 St 25¢. Emails to Rick (you know, the "Who's Rick?") and posts & threads on the Registry Board, and filling out useless surveys etc etc fell on deaf ears, I may as well have been beating my pointy head against the wall for all the good it did...........

Hell, I got like a $1,000 MS69 Platinum Eagle (Statue of Liberty) that I can't even enter in the PCGS Set Registry in it's catagory because the slab insert says "Eagle" which means it's incorrectly certified as a Gold Eagle, I've emailed the Registry people and no reply..........

But Sunday I posted a question to the NGC board Ask NGC or whatever it's called about not being able to use a Sample NGC Slab in my Registry Set over there and I got a quick answer from Dena about Sample Slabs didn't have numerical grades but mine does and a cute little rainbow crescent to boot. I was really impressed and tickled that I might even finally get to use a Sample Slab.

That's ahhh...hmmm waddaya call it? CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Dog97- I read, and responded also to your question over on the NGC forum. I wish PCGS would open up their "Questions & Answers" using the same format.

Now, regarding your sitsuation: I was under the impression- when I read Dana's reply to you, NGC was no closer to allowing ERROR coins into their Registry. My answer was that, in a sense, they do- via PCGS error coins.

Yours was a well thought out question and I still wish PCGS would adjust their format to more closely resemble NGC's.

What I understand Braddick a coin has to have a numerical grade to be included in the Reg Set (of course) and Dena didn't know that some Sample Slabs actually had numerical grades.
They haven't posted my last reply from tonight but I sent them a pict of my slab so who knows, maybe Dena will put it in my set.
At least they're talking to me about it.

I never could figure out how to post on the dang thing. Sure, I know, it said "your question must be approved" or something like that, but how were you supposed to get it approved? Email PCGS? PM Carol or somebody? image

I got the door slammed in my face every time I tried to post something "for approval".

    Guess what Braddick......
I got an email from Dena today and she entered my NGC Sample Slab in their Morgan Set Registry. imageimageimage
As you can see I'm very happy about it! imageimage
I don't buy coins strictly because of what brand holder they are in whether or not they fit a Registry but this just might be the deciding factor.
