2002- D dime error

This is my first post and I wanted to also ask opiions about the value of this 2002- D dime.

Didn't know if it was worth having graded or not and also who might buy it?

Welcome to the board! What error did you see in the coin? It looks like a MS-65/66 (need a different full-body scan to tell more accurately) I wouldn't have it graded unless you needed something for a type set.

Judging by the reverse that's a genuine clipped planchet.
Unfortunately they rarely sell for more than the grading fee.
    Tempus fugit.

Dag nabbit! I couldn't see the clip, I thought the rest of the coin was hiding behind the finger! image My bad. I would send it in! Congrats on a nice find (if it is a true clipped planchet and not a wire cutter job)

You mean `Coin struck on a clipped blank,or planchet.`A clipped planchet would be,no design struck.
I think thats what cladking meant anyway.
Those curved clipped coins with 5% and less are the most common as they are less likely to get caught in the riddler screen.Your looks like its closer to 10% or more.Neat find.
  • Aren't clipped planchets usually circular? I don't ever recall seeing a straight cut one like that?

Yes .Ususally they are curved abit. But not always. Some are convex, some concave, and some are even straight.

Two ways of getting clipped planchets:

Roll of sheet metal doesn't advance far enough before using the cookie cutter to cut the next set of blanks.

Cookie cutter cuts on the leading or tail edge of a piece of sheet metal.

  • Kewl - thanks for the explanation guys!

That's pretty cool, a good find. You could sell it raw on eBay for around $10 so it's not worth slabbing.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
