Mainstream?!

On my Mike Schmidt Basic Player Registry update (done in consortium with the help of Messieurs James Kendall and Neal Kane), Joe Orlando vetoed the following cards as not being mainstream:
70 1975 TOPPS MINI MIKE SCHMIDT
41 1977 TOPPS CLOTH STICKERS MIKE SCHMIDT
16 1988 SCORE MIKE SCHMIDT
U-131 1989 FLEER UPDATE MIKE SCHMIDT
149 1989 SCORE MIKE SCHMIDT
Now -- I wasn't even born in 1975, but it seems clear to me today that 1975 Topps Mini is a mainstream set. 1977 Topps Cloth sticker -- though ugly, also qualifies. But having grown up and collected in the late 1980s, I can say without qualification that I have NO IDEA how Score regular-issue cards are not considered mainstream. In 1988, there was Topps, Score, Donruss and Fleer. Four major sets -- and the occassional update or glossy version. But that was it. How is Score not considered a mainstream set? If these cards were worth anything more than a dime each -- I would probably be boycotting Joe Orlando's office right now.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

As for the 88 and 89 Score and Fleers. I am perplexed. Not mainstream? How? Why? If they are not, then what just does constitute mainstream?
I believe that if there is a Master set of any player (with notable exceptions like Ripken, Clemens, Bonds, etc due to all of those 90's refractors and such), PSA should list all of the cards for that player they have graded. Topps and Topps Tiffany could be exceptions, as either issue would count in my own opinion.
All Rose and Schmidt Kelloggs cards should be in their Master sets as well.
Kellogg's not included?????????????
Disgraceful!!!!!!!!!!
Marc, when the protest and demonstration starts out there in Newport Beach, count me in among the unruly participants. At least my protest sign will be in 3-D
All cards issued during the players career should be part of the set. This allows for a bigger challenge to complete.
All the mainstream cards (my definition: widely distributed) of a player issued during his playing career should be included.
I just don't understand why Score and Topps Mini can't be part of the Basic Player Set Registry, too. Oh well. It's almost like throwing the Kelloggs, Topps Mini and Score cards in with the Burger King, Isaly Discs and other cards. Kelloggs obviously rises above cards like those ;-)
(oh no -- I hope I'm not converting!)
that's Konverting
agreed ... Marc would be a very nice addition to the Klub
It was the box of Pops from Korro that won him over
Is it a seller who sends these boxes along with Kelloggs Kards? If so, does any know who it is?
I believe that gemmintman, zardoz and myself (along with a multitude of others) have received a complimentary box of Kellogg's cereal along with their Kelloggs purchases from Ebay...
I guess you have to buy something from him first .
I just received an email saying my Kelloggs Kards are on their way. It hinted at something else too.
<< <i>I don't think either of those sets currently have migrated to the basic player set vs. the master set registry. I just can't believe that a Score card or a 1975 Mini is not "mainstream" enough to make it to the basic player set. I guess PSA really wants those basic player set to be as small as possible! (e.g., no All-Star cards, record breaker cards, league leader cards, etc.) >>
The Bench set seems to be just a player set not a Basic or Master. It's missing many cards including everyones favorite cereal and a handfull of other nice cards worthy of being listed.
Just my opinion....I believe all cards from a players career should belong in a player set.I can understand a basic player set having less cards for a collector who can't afford some of the higher priced cards.
BTW- what is the difference supposed to be on a player set(not basic) VS. a master set?All-Star cards, record breaker cards, league leader cards, etc.?

My understanding is that every set that is currently listed as a Player Set will eventually be migrating over to a "Basic Player" set and a "Master" set. This process is just beginning, and Mickey Mantle's set is the example examplar, I believe.

I agree those cards should be part of the basic player set. I also think that All-Star cards, record breaker cards, league leader cards should also be part of the basic player set. It does seem that PSA wants to make the basic player sets a small a possible. I really don't have much of a problem with this because there will be a master set for each player that will list these cards. I'm just glad that PSA decided to make both basic and master sets.
