Kudos to CONECA

As an error/variety collector I would like to express my sincere appreciation to CONECA for their recent efforts in listing all their latest Lincoln rpm and double die listings on their site! It's beyond reassuring to finally now make the obvious decision which club wants to honestly share info to assist the rpm/double die collectors instead of amassing info for their own "secretive" listings. NCADD considers themselves "equal, if not better" but that's a sad attempt for profit over true numismatic endeavors.

    How about a link?

  • Spooly, I'd post links if I knew how to wade thru all that confusing stuff. Coins are old hat (25+ years) and just making communication here is an accomplishment for me. Sorry for the hassel from an ignorant old man but......

The biggest problem with their recent listing is that they neglected to use photos of any kind in their listings which render it basically useless as an attribution guide. Other than it being useless, it's fine.

I use it all the time and I don't find it useless at all. It's very helpful and I'm glad to see a LITTLE progress on it from time to time.
coppercoins if you can't understand the tech jargon and don't know how to attribute just ask.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Well, actually I do know how to attribute die varieties - in fact I have been working on a publically available die attribution system for three years now. Although there is a long way to go on it, I do have some of it ready to use on the site.

There are many, many die varieties for which photos are an absolute must to discern the minor differences between them. A little text isn't enough for anyone to properly and with 100% accuracy attribute most of the 2,000 plus known Lincoln cent die varieties, and I am sure the same holds true for the other series, especially the hundreds of listed proof Jefferson nickel doubled dies from the 1955-1964 era...just as an example.

Like I said, it's a big step forward for CONECA to release ANY information from their files, but simple listings with text descriptions isn't enough.

No it's not 100% accurate to attribute with but it's a big help.
I'm not a variety collector but people have posted some valuable varities here asking for help with them although I wasn't sure I was 100% accurate in my assesments I was able to point them in the right direction to get them properly attributed so I say it's a service to the hobby rather than useless! image

  • I find it somewhat useful when looking at other series besides cents, although it doesn't look this minor 1946d Jefferson rpm is listed...
