1970 jackhammered PCGS MS66 Kennedy half.
I've had '64's with FAR less dings only make MS65. I had one with the about the same amount get stuck in an MS63 holder.

You still have time to snipe it though.

Apparently with the aid of an ice pick.
I thought that at first, but I pulled the scan down and messed with gamma, inversion, contrast, etc, etc. If they are gouges in the plastic, they are very deep. They are also the typical pattern for bag marks that I've seen on the early ones. Still a possibility, I suppose.

First POTD 9/19/05!!
Not really. The price realized is quite a bit less than what these have been bringing in 66 this year, so I think the bidders discounted the coin accordingly.

Yep, PCGS is definitely grading those Kennedy coins with...... "consistency".
Russ, when you received that 65 & 63, I guess you had not met your annual fee deductible. You can't expect consistent grading until you have gone through your co-insurance phase and reach the 100% portion of the grading plan.

Your icon is the heat. Is it as cam in person as it looks in the scan?
Russ,
Back to the Kennedy, it almost looks like a reeding mark from another coin, but there is also what appears to be pretty bad chatter in the obverse field at 10:00. Looks like a solid MS64.
and it sets us apart from practitioners and consultants. Gregor
How many modern coins have you looked at? Most of my MS-66 pieces in Ikes and Kennedys have visible markings that can be seen with a scan.

Particularly if it's an older holder (which this one is). PCGS's protestations to the contrary, their grading standards have tightened considerably.

Why? The seller fulfilled his obligation perfectly. He provided huge scans of the coin and made no attempt to hide the defects. I have no problem with this seller at all. It's PCGS that stepped in it.

Yep, Python, been there. I can't tell you how many PCGS PR69DCAM coins I've bought with an auction description that said "NO HAZE OR SPOTS" only to get them in and find fields full of haze and spots. When I first started, I thought this must be normal (hey, I was new and stupid) and got stuck with a few because I didn't return them. Lost my butt at auction because I described them honestly.
Now, when I get one in like that, it immediately goes back to the seller.

You "outbid" Braddick?
Looks more like Braddick's day old bid was sniped in the last 18 seconds!
Seems like you guys don't like the way PCGS grades the Kennedy?!
