How much do you worry about copper spots? They’re not uncommon on gold coins, are they? As long as they are hidden and not in any prime focal areas, would you let a copper spot or two stop you from buying a coin? Does anyone know if copper spots can lower the grade of a coin, or are they considered to be just a form of toning?
Thanks,
Dan

From a dealer's point of view I can tell you that many dealers will either avoid or pay less for gold coins with copper spots. From a grader's perspective, copper spots can lower the grade of the coin from what it otherwise might/would be. It will depend upon the size, location, color and number of the spot(s)/stains. I happen to like some of them because they can be pretty. But, I'm in the minority.
