Decided to throw up from all the talk about Kelloggs

Guys,
I am very happy for all that collects this Kelloggs series, however can we please have other conversations on the boards other than this. I am not picking fights, but everyday when I look on the registry all I see is a fight between gemmint, zardoz and Davalillo about if it is vintage or modern. Who the F(*^& cares what it is? Who cares about the coolaid dude? Who cares about where you ate last night? Let's talk about the real stuff. Future investing in cards, where the best value is for set collectors, what set is the hardest to complete in high grade, which cards are the toughest in each set. All this is important information that all of us want to hear about. The Marshall Fogal stories, Zardoz tell us info. about the 1970 Kelloggs if you want that is interesting. I can not afford to collect every set, however I like knowing the scoop on it all.
I hope everyone is on board with this.

i actually enjoy the insanity of the kellogg's fans as well as fogel's stories...

relax a little ..after all its a hobby where FUN is the crucial thing.

interesting topics come up all the time such as the recent posts about 1969 super and bidding patterns in the 1975 topps

zardos and gemmintman as well as davalillo are funny guys and their "friendly competition" (not fights as you see it) are very well balanced with their other many posts that reflect their hobby experience.

i am an avid reader of these boards and i owe many thanks to these fine gentlemen for sharing their knowledge of cards that have greatly helped a new collector like myself.

i even registered a 70 kelloggs set just because of peer preassure image

money comes and goes...spend your money on fun things and when its gone you wont regret it too much.

My point is to discuss other information about cards other than Kelloggs. I am not knocking who collects these cards, nor am I picking on the big three that collects these. I just would like to see more interesting conversations on here. Many people who read these threads are hardcore collectors, thus they want to hear success stories and valued information. I hope you understand clearly now.

    1954,

I think everything comes and goes in waves. There have been times when people were sick of the 72 Topps conversations, the 69 White Letter conversations and a host of others... If you've got a good topic - throw it up on the forum and you'll see the Kellogg's threads start to slide down to the bottom. But, without better topics on the boards, its going to be tough to make them go away.

Really no big deal, other sets get large "cult" followings at times, the 64 giants were hot for while recently. While I do not personally collect all sets being posted/discussed I usually enjoy reading the comments. I am sure we would all like to read about our favorite sets more often. Perhaps one should start threads about sets from different decades once in a while just to keep some variety going.

Over on the Beckett board, GU swatches and unique inserts, from today to about 3 years ago, dominate. The vintage area gets maybe a post per month. This board while not perfect is truly quite enjoyable. image

jaxxr - Kelloggs Kollectors are not a "cult", but a "Kult"

I am getting the hang of this Zardoz and Gemmint!

1954 - I see what you are saying, and I was once there with you. These topics do seem to come and go and the same holds true on the other forums. I eventually realized these posts are not only entertaining, but very infromative. There are a lot of knowledgeable collectors out there that post, put in their 2 cents, and I learn something ... and get a good chuckle at times. Plus, I came to realize the 1970 Kelloggs set is a good set to own - you may too. I would reccomend to join in.

  • Every time I looked at the topics on the board in recent days and saw the Kelloggs threads at the top, know what I did?

I passed right by them, chose not to even look and went on down to another topic to read and post. WHADDYA KNOW? It moved the Kelloggs thread down a notch or two. Who'da thunk it?

It's bad enough to have Charlie police the site for anti-MW threads, which are really funny. Now 1954 wants to limit what the rest of us have no trouble simply passing over by choice. Get over it. Just post your little heart out on other threads and you'll achieve the same objective without gestapo-like enforcement.

Oh, and welcome to America, land of the free and home of the brave.

    edited for syntax and grammer.

While not into the "K Kult" yet, I think the board postings are a laugh riot, hilarious outlet for all of us. You can't ALWAYS have every post be about the CU stock price, possible company takeovers, card dealer assaults, multiple ID's, seriousness. Take a step back and enjoy the board for what it is--sharing grading horrors and finds, connecting with fellow collectors, making trades, instructions on deslabbing and crossing over, and occasionally providing the PSA folks feedback on the "state of the hobby." Enjoy.

  • I agree. Stay away from the Kellogg's if you dont like it. But as for me I think its not only funny but imformative and profitable. I would have never sent my Kellogg's in without these threads and when I did I got three tens. One came back a one of one That Davilillo and Gemintman gave very generous and profitable offers on. ( I will make my choice today on which offer to accept but they are neck and neck on the offers) As I stated above I look forward to the threads and they help lighten up a somewhat dismal world.

  • 1954 - I really do understand what you're saying. The Kellogg's Klub has been dominating the board lately, but let's face it, there haven't been any earth shattering topics lately to discuss on this board. Think about it - if '70 Kellogg's or any other set for that matter can take over the conversation for a few weeks, what does that say about things?

I think the vast majority of collectors here realize that the '70 Kellogg's posts are just a lot of fun. Even Darth Vic knows this. We even started a contest to get other people involved just to keep everyone interested in something.

It's all about the fun, and the board has been dead quiet so it is serving its purpose. I haven't heard a peep out of the '72 FAB FIVE for months (a former hot topic on the board) . I don't collect the '72's, but I gave them their nickname and even joined in the fun a little.

We've been talking about those things for three years (this board and the Sports Board). You've been here since May, but if you want to start a topic on any of those good topics feel free. If it's interesting enough it will take over for a while.
BTW, I want to hear from Marshall too. However he leaves a great story with us and off he goes. There isn't going to be alot of interaction on such threads unless Marshall hangs around for a while.

So try not to worry too much about the K Klub. I'm sure it will go into a kooling off period at some point image.
  • Mr. 1954

I am sorry to hear that your intestinal systems are unable to digest the Kellogg's posts, the camaraderie among the collectors of this set, and the fun that we bring into a hobby that you would rather see concerned with the nuts and bolts, investment aspect, and elitism that has brought our hobby into the sorry state that we find it today.

Fortunately, in all the topic titles listed to date, you will find boldly emblazoned the word "Kellogg's"........Do not click on this but scroll down to a topic title that is of interest to you. This board must appeal to a wide variety of collectors with a wide spectrum of interests. I'm sorry that every post cannot be geared specifically to your respective areas of collecting.

As for the Vintage versus modern debate..So what? if you are offended, scroll down to a topic that is of interest.. etc. etc. It's all in fun, I really don't think that there is one person on this board that is willing to go to war over such a mundane issue. What you have is a group of folks who are just having fun and breathing a little life into something that you would prefer to be "blut und eisen".

We have fun with this set. Didn't like our Kontest? Tough! Gemmintman and myself contributed $200 worth of cards for the good of the hobby and PROMOTION OF THE PSA REGISTRY. what was in it for us in a material sense? Absolutely NOTHING!!!!

What have you done to spur interest and debate in the sets that you collect? In six months of membership on this board, you have 76 posts. How about writing something about the Wilson Franks? They are scarce cards, usually found in horrible condition, and I'm willing to bet that the majority of the board members are unfamiliar with them, some probably having never even seen one.

There is always the Network54 board that is very cut and dry, no humor, with a good selection of elitist collectors, but with the occasional lover's spat. That's why you'll find 10 new posts a day from the same six people. Go there and you'll appreciate this board and the contributors here despite the accompanying insanity and humor that you find so nauseating.

Remember that we live in a free country and you are free to read and write whatever you may choose. You are under no obligation, nor is there any requirement to read the Kellogg's posts.

Remember, see the word Kellogg's in a title, DO NOT CLICK ON THIS!!!! just scroll down and read something that might brighten your life.

  • I think it's always a good sign for the hobby to see a large number of posts from collectors that actually care about something. Trust me, this board is much more interesting than the others mentioned. Beckett I can't even follow, Network 54 seems to be primarily a handful of elite collectors complaining about ebay auctions, and the AOL boards are a complete waste. Any others out there of interest? And don't just spam every little chat board - looking for boards with more than a few posts a week...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

Please keep the Kelloggs threads coming . I find them a nice break from the serious sides of the hobby. If you dont like to read them or are sick of them its very easy to skip over them.

Investing ?? Since the Gemmintman and Davalillo started there bidding war over 1/1 PSA 10's . There has been no better investment than Kelloggs

  • You guys need to read between the lines. Here's how I see it. 1954 had become hooked on the 1970 Kellogg's set through reading these threads long before he had ever seen his first card. He was out running some errands early Saturday morning when he happened upon an local card show. He decided to drop in to see if there were any Kellogg's 1970's to be found. The first table he walked up to, and there it was; a beautiful PSA 9 1970 Kellogg's Horlen. WOW!! He was almost in tears as he asked how much for that peice of vintage artwork. After getting the price, he asked if he could hold it and get a closer look.
As he brought it in close, and began to stare at the beauty that is the vintage 1970 Kellogg's, he bacame dizzy and disoriented. The dealer ask if he was ok, but 1954's head began to spin faster and faster (BAMM!!) until he hit the floor. When he came to, he realized he didn't have it in him to hang with the Kellogg's Klub. He was ashamed and I believe this is how he has choosen to lashed back at the K Klub. The end.

Zardoz, I can tell you that my posts would be 3782 if I posted stupid, non informative items on the board every thirteen minutes. I don't have the time. I do find the post of the Kelloggs Klan very funny and at times very interesting. My point to this was that I would like to see more threads of other sets. I understand that the Kelloggs set is very appreciated by many on this board. I wish we had more collectors that were as enthusiastic about card collecting as you all are. Again, I am not bashing who collects these cards.

GemMint-Why don't you write an article about which ones of these are the toughest and why. Maybe with more information about the set, you can influence me and others to start collecting this beloved set?
Oh, and by the way. I do have two 1970 PSA 9 Kelloggs cards (Horlen and Pepitone). So I could be persuaded.

You see I knew there is good in most people image. I see now that you're a Kloset K Kollector just busting to be part of the Karnival. A kry for help in a way.

BTW, we have had discussions on the tougher cards in the set, their history and how the cards were produced, what specifically to look for before submitting, how to correct some of the curling, etc... We can go over these things and others like them again from time to time. I have no problem with that, and we do, but we need some komic relief as well to make the kollecting of this set even more fun image.
  • 3782?

That means that I have 70 "free-pass" posts to go. Thanks

I'll just be nice and look forward to your quality contributions to the board

    1954,

My advice would be to skip the Kellogg's--I used to until I got wrapped up in this challenge....which is all in good fun by the way....everything I know of Zardoz and Gemmint is that they are great guys....doesn't mean that I don't want to get to #1 though.
My second piece of advice is not to criticize Zardoz. He is not only a good guy but I think goes out of his way to help people....except me against Gemmint where I can't win him over....

  • I start to read every thread on the board. I don't always finish them (especially the ones knocking specific dealers/and or collectors), but I read to expand my collecting knowledge. I can see how 1954 can be upset about the Kelloggs threads, but if you don't like them, don't read them.
