I ran across my first regular I/I today (i.e. not double-die reverse). This is probably one of the most underrated trade dollars out there in circulated grades. Bowers' book has the scarcity estimates completely backwards, and he says the I/II is 5 to 10 times scarcer. From my experience I'd say the regular type I reverse is about 10 to 20 times scarcer than the type II.
Trade dollar collectors, how many of you have a regular type I reverse in your collection?

1876-cc total ms graded 61.
1876-cc ddr total ms graded 8. Highest grade given au58.
If we were to look at 61 certified 1876-CC's, I imagine less than 5 would be non-DDR type 1's.

The funny thing is that most dealers wouldn't believe you if you told them, so if you found a non-DDR type 1 in their showcase you'd probably get it for the type 2 price. At least that's what I did.

I've seen about 60-80 76-CC's either in person or auction plate. I don't recall noting either of the reverse types particularly scarce - appx an equal distribution of each. I do recall finding that the DDR is a lot more common than I thought it would be - appx 25-30% of all type I's I viewed. This would lead be to believe that type I, non DDR coins comprise about 30-35% of the 76CC population.
Now I'll look up Keoj's numbers:
he shows 25 out of 39 coins he viewed were type II reverse. He estimates the type II reverse to be 4 times more prevalent than the type I.
I figured it would be scarcer than that. That's the funny thing about one person's observations-- they can be so skewed. Another trade dollar collector said he thought the 1875-S I/II was common since about 1/3rd of the '75-S's he ran across were that variety. I can't remember how many he'd seen, but I'd say only 5% of the 75-S's I've seen have been I/II.
I find it hard to believe that the regular T1 reverse is twice as common as the DDR. Maybe I've just been around a lot of DDR's.

Here's the one I got. It's got AU details but has been cleaned.

Here's the obverse.
BTW, according to keoj the micro cc reverse was used on the '73-CC and the '74-CC, but on those coins it demands a premium.
