Mercury Dime Auction

Am i missing something here?

Here is a 1937 Merc which went for $471 in MS68 2/0. It is the same NON full bands coins sold by Heritage in May for 242.

Either the buyer thought it was FB or the seller made a heck of a purchase last Spring. Seems to me there are an awful lot of 67s that could break into the 68 pool over the years.

Any Merc experts out there? BTW I am in the market for a MS68 FB merc. PM me.

Lately some of the Higher Grade Mercs are going for Insane Money. I believe that the Dates from 1934 on still have the Potential to create some very high grade examples. I'll pluck a 67 or two if the price is right but outside of that its playing with Fire to Spend large amounts of Money on the late dates now. JMHO.

  • I have a number of BU+ Mercs with fully discernable bands. I have just been hesitant to get them graded, as they are all forties dates. I do have a very very nice 1920 I am considering grading.

That 37P in 67FB is $60 on the Blue Sheet so the $242 paid earlier is about correct IMO.

I was the second highest bidder at $466, and glad I missed it. I did think it was a full band at the time I bid. The coin has a pop of 2/0, and I thougt is was ms68fb. Opps but happy I missed. image

  • fcloud,
I almost bid but looked again and realized NO FULL BANDS!!

What confused me is the price. I think the buyer way over paid on this one. Look at the comp pops/mintage and you'll see a fair price is mid to hi 200s.
  • A 37-p in 68fb with a pop of 10 would probable sell for$1500
    or higher

I need a new set of glassses. I think it was the pop 2/0 that threw me off. Well like I said earlier. I'm glad I didn't get it. If I did everyone here would be laughing at me. (Like they aren't already)image

    Fcloud:

You know, in some sense it's the underbidder who sets the price because the price is just above what the underbidder is willing to pay. So, when all the price guides are shifted upward to reflect a higher price for 37-P MS68 non-FB dime, we can blame or thank (your choice) fcloud!!! Gad, fcloud, what powers you have!! ( image )

Well, Mark, I hope it is thank you, rather than blame.
