I don't know diddly about those, but I think that puppy looks fabulous. I love the toning on that one.

According to one of the price guides I have, it's right at retial right now - if you include the buyer's premium...$3,300. Very Nice.

In case you are not used to looking at these toned color pieces. Heres some food for thought, It is probably captured in it's best light in the image. In person it probably won't look like that until you get it under a pinpoint light source. And with the mottled toning when you open the box if, you buy it, it might even look ugly.

These are just my experiences and notice I added might to all my assumptions.image

    Go for it !!!
A very nice two year type coin that I wouldn't mind having and according to my latest coin value guide book "Wayte Raymond's Standard Catalog of United States Coins of 1946" this coin is worth $3.50 in Uncirculated condition.

I guess with all of todays hype it is worth slightly more nowadays image

Looks nice as long as the scratch is on the holder. Seems like alot of money for something so small image

That's a pretty coin. Bear in mind what stman said, though. It could look different in hand. Still, it looks great to me except the spot near the left top part of the reverse wreath, and that's hardly worth bellyaching about.

I noticed the "scratch" Placid referred to as well (before he changed his mind and edited the post above this one): extending from Y in LIBERTY on the shield, down past the 7 in the date. But surely it isn't a crack. What is it? A hair on the outside of the holder? A die crack? A planchet flaw? image It doesn't look like any of those to me, either. Maybe it IS a scratch... in the holder.

I have been looking at this coin also in the B&M auction and it appears they have accidently mixed up the pictures between lot# 1140(MS66) and lot #1138(AU58). Take a second look at these auction descriptions and pictures and I think you will see what I mean. By the way that is a great looking coin even with the scratch. image mike

It looks AU and like it has received it's tone from being in an album for years but I understand the pict isn't the greatest. I am concerned about the activity by the date, it doesn't look like a crack but could be a strike thru but looks like a scratch.
I'm not into Seated and the coin doesn't scream "buy me" but if I were a Seated collector and needed that date I would buy it if it was from a "reputable" dealer who would let me return it if I didn't like it after looking at it first hand. I would rather it be in a slab so I wouldn't have to worry about it being a "problem" coin in the first place and having to go thru the hassle of returning it. I would contact the seller and have my question answered before I took the chance.

  • Darktone,

I think you are right on the picture of lot 1138 (au) and 1140 (ms66) being turned around. The description on lot 1138 ..the 1837 (AU)
fits perfectly the picture showing lot 1140. Thank you for your observation. I sent a email for them to check out this matter .

    Dog,
If what darktone is correct about then your judgement was right on the money. Thank you.

Hahaha cool glad I got one right. Since it's at B&M I wouldn't be scared of it. As far as the value like I said I'm not into Seated but the PCGS guide is AU $375 & MS-60 $590. If it were a knockout monster I'd pay 60 money for it but if it looks like I think I only want to pay $375 for it. I'd check around on prices realized to get a better idea on what it's worth before blindly paying PCGS Price Guide prices because they are so whacked you can't really put much faith in them.

Dog is also right on the money with his pricing. Unfortunately if your not attending the auction you have to err on the side of caution and go with the low bid which really puts the internet bidder at a disadvantage.
