Newbie Questions ?

Hi Guys, 2 questions - I know that most of you deal with coins on the other end of the spectrum, but in what I collect, the bottom of the barrel is sometimes all that is available. In the population reports at the low end of the charts it lists VG-VF and lumps all those together. What about coins graded G6 and below? If you add the #'s up all the way accross it seems to always add up to the total # of coins graded. Are coins graded G6 and below not included in the pop reports? Question 2 - If PCGS crosses a NGC slab do they give that cert # to NGC to be removed from their population database and vice-versa? Thanks, Hopeto

  • I'll take a stab at answering these questions, and I'm sure if I'm wrong, somebody more knowledgeable will help us out.

    1. I do believe they lump all the lower grades into one VG-VF number. I base this on my oqn experience. I have a coin certified by PCGS (made it myself) that grades AG03 and that grade is not listed in the pop report.

    2. I do not believe they send the number back to NGC on a cross, but I have no experience with this, so my answer is just a guess.

    CCG,

On crossovers the cert. tag is returned to you. Hopefully to be sent to the respective grading service.

I've got about 7 I need to send in. image

  • DAM is correct, on cross overs the insert is sent back to the submitter with the coin. It is the responsibility of the collector to return it to the former grading service so the pop report can be updated.
A lot of anti slab and other types will tell you not to waste your time that the pop reports are a bunch of BS anyway DON'T listen to them....They have a grudge or alternate agenda.

I do not think the grading services bother to report the pop on coins graded below VG

  • DAM, Yes - At this time I am the only Carson City Gold Set listed. I am trying to figure out how to put the link in my signature. Thanks for the answers, CCG
