Another question: sending for grading

I've got a bunch of my dad's coins in those stapled cardboard thingys. Can I send them to be graded in those? If not, what is better, and where do I get it?

Nope, can't use those. With grading companies staples are a big no-no. Use 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 mylar (the stiff kind) flips. They're available a wide variety of places, including the grading companies themselves. They sell kits with everything you need.

    No you need 2-1/2x2-1/2 flips.
Be very carefull when you remove the coins from those holders staple scratches are killers.
Lots of places sell flips. Use the saflips not the cheap ones with pcv.

Here is one source but they only sell boxes of 100 Link
  • Is this what I want?

    or this?

Edit: Thanks for the link, Placid. Looks like a good price!

No those are 2x2 you want 2-1/2x2-1/2 but yes they are what you want but smaller.

I bought the 2½X2½ flip with Inserts "unplasticized" - 100ct (includes storage box) $16.00
and they were the saflips by kointainer.
  • THANKS! Those will fit my Peace dollars, right? I'll go order those and get started on this phase. My eyes are tired from looking at coins. I'd better go get some sleep!

When you remove the coins from the stapled holders, don't peel apart the holders, just "pop" the coin out of cardboard holder through the plastic. No worries concerning staple scratches that way. It doesn't hurt to put a towel down below your work area, in case of any droppsies image
