Anyone noticing the diff die finishes on clads now?

I've noticed this for some time, but thought I'd ask it. Has anyone noticed how the coin finish/luster is different on coins struck within the last few years than in the previous years and the older clad issues? The nickel seems to have had a slight modification that changed how the luster works and the quarters have this really reflective/frosty luster quality to them. I was wondering if anyone knew why the change and what actually was the change.

  • I collect Kennedy's and have not seen any. Although, now it's harder to obtain earlier strike coins which feature PL but not mirror surfaces... blazing would be a better description.... hope I was helpfull!

    Rusty.

Have you noticed, though, that the finish of the 80s JFKs is not like the finish of the 70s? There's this washed out bright look in the modern clads that was not true before.

I definitely noticed the change on the nickels. Very attractive.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
