Double die obverse on 1950 proof franklin half.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of one?
I have one.The doubling is most apparent in the date and TRUST.I thought it was odd that noone else noticed it given the value of the coin in higher grades and the fact that it is easily seen with a 5x glass.
I know it`s no pi**ing minuteman, but it oughta be worth something, say maybe about half.image
A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."

No where near a pi**ing minuteman or an Oswald Kennedy. Even a 1955 DDO cent in MS66RD can't compare to these ULTRA RARE PROOF ERRORS of which LESS THAN 10 are expected to exist...

OK,OK, I can't keep this up, even in jestimageimageimageimage

Edited to add: Oh yeah, this thread... I have heard of the 1950 DDO 50c proof, but have never seen one.

  • VAM - I can't find any reference to it in the Franklin Half Dollars book, but if you drop a note to Rick Tomaska (rt@ricoins.com) I'm sure he would answer your questions.

It's very possible that it is a master doubled die. This is very common with many proof coins of this era.

Check the ANACS population report and see if they have graded any. I don't have the book in front of me, but I'll try to look it up this weekend if no one beats me to it.

Can't find anything either, but, considering the '50 is considered the poorest quality proof of the series, you may try and discount the doubling as the result of die fatigue or some similar characteristic. That said, I would inquire of Tomaska if he has discovered doubling on the '50 proof; maybe it is a new discovery to be included in the 2nd edition of his book OR maybe YOU have made a new discovery.
