coin book?

i remember years ago i was at a stamp show in alabama, and this dealer showed me a "lynn" catolog from 1938, i was amazed that there was a book like that in that era.
what the oldest cat. or book you've seen for us coins??. i've seen red books from 58 but nothing earlier..

The greatest work in American numismatics, Sylvester Sage Crosby's The Early Coins of America was published in 1874. John H. Hickcox' An Historical Account of American Coinage was published in 1858.

I've seen some of the "Numismatists" magazines from the 20s or 30s, but that's about as far back as I've seen. I have some "Numismatic Scrapbook" magazines from the early 50s and some other assorted magazines from the 50s and 60s, though.

There was a series of booklets called 'The Young Collector'. I have one copyrighted 1900 with the title 'Colonial Coins and Tokens' and another 'Copper Coins of Europe' dated 1906. They're worn but interesting.

Oldest I've seen in person was a copy of Maris on the varieties of 1794 cents, 1867. One of the earliest I know of is the catalog of the Mint collection published in 1842. (It used an engraving of the 1804 dollar on the front page. It was how the collecting community learned of the coins existance.) There are probably annual mint reports available from even earlier years.
