Buffalo Nickel experts, Opinions Please

I went to my first ever coin show on Sunday and picked up "The CherryPickers Guide". I've heard you all talk about it so I thought it ws time to get myself one. I got home and started going through some stuff and came across this Buff...a 1935-D. Is this considered a repunched mint mark or is it a blob of gunk?

See "Treasure Hunting Buffalo nickels" by John Wexler, buy it or borrow it from the ANA library.
You can also buy it from the ANA money market store. I think its $30. Great reference for all
    Buff varieties.

    Matt,
Looks like an RPM to me. I have the guide as well, and I see 8 RPMs listed. Your's is none of the above. The guide has instructions for reporting new varieties on page 134... wouldn't that be neat to get credit for discovering a new RPM?!!

Editted to add: The Wexler book mentioned above is what I have. That lighter D well southwest of the primary is not a variety shown in the book.
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • The "blob" as I see it seems to match the upper left part of the D mint mark. I go along with the others that there's a good chance it's an RPM. That's the neat thing about varieties, new ones are being found all the time. Good luck! image
  • Thanks all for theopinions. I'm pretty excited about it. This is a first for me. I learn from you guys every day!image
