Great Cherry Picking Weekend!!! Pics added

Got some new rolls this weekend from my source. All original BU's. I found 3 MSRD 1939 DDO (1-O-I) FS# 1c-017's. 1 will go MS65RD and 2 will go 66RD!!!. Anyone know the POP on these? The are a URS-8 which means 65-125 known. I also found about a dozen cherry red 38 s/s/s's, FS# 1c-016.5, RPM#2. All the OMM's are early die state to boot. Infact they show more detail than the picture in cherry pickers. Also got a handful of the RPM #1's which are a latter die state than pictured but cool none the less.

May have also found another DDO type for the 39, its a minor DDO but cool.

On the 38 s, does anyone know about a micro "S". I found a few coins that have a much smaller "S" and its slanted to the right. Is this known by anyone?

  • The 39 DDO won't have a POP so ignore that question.

Airplane, the "source" is a retired guy who is selling of his roll collection. I actually found him on Ebay. He was selling some rare rolls and was not getting the bids he thought they should get. He still had 4 days left on the auctions and did not, I guess, understand that the best bids don't come to the last day, hour or second. So he pulled the auctions and I emailed him about the rolls. He sent them to me and asked me to make an offer so I did. I could not afford to buy all the coins at one time so I am slowly purchasing them from him. Up to 1939 now.

RPM #1 slants to the right and in the book I have, it looks smaller than the others. Your coin may be a stage C or D. That is why the rpm isn't that easy to see.

How much for one of the 1938-S/S/S coins?

  • I don't think its RPM#1 although it does look to be an RPM as well. I found some of the RPM#1's but did not scan it in. I will scan in an RPM#1 tonight, at least what I think is the actual RPM#1.

    The actual 1938S-1MM-001 (RPM#1)..

This image is of a mid-die state coin. Later die state coins will have an increasingly weak secondary mint mark, to the point where it's a mere blob. I believe the last 1938S image in the post above is a later die state example of this die, but I can't tell for sure without examining the coin in person.
