2nd place bidder

I sold 2 coins on ebay and had 2 surprises. On 1 coin, the 2nd place bidder contacted me and told me he wanted the coin but not bad enough. I never had that happen before. If I'm the 2nd place bidder, I just think too bad. I would never email the seller. Do you guys get emails from the losing bidders?

My other coin was an inexpensive one, les than $10. The high bidder sniped it with 7 seconds to go. I thought that was strange too. I never spend the effort to snipe cheap coins.

I'll sometimes contact the seller if I have bidders remorse, letting them know I'm still interested if the high bidder doesn't follow through. I've ended up with items more than once that way. I've also sold to underbidders when the high bidder didn't follow through. The most interesting was a guy who bid real high on a 1795 flowing hair dollar PCGS45. He thought it was a half-dollar and backed out. The underbidder was thrilled to get it.

Re: the cheap snipe, it's easier to enter a bid with sniping software than it is to sit around waiting for a auction to end. I never tip my hand if really interested in a item.

  • The sniping "rush" is the same if it's $10 or $1000 once I started doing it I can't stop,It's more fun that way even if no oneelse has bid! "I don't know why I like it I just do!"image

I've emailed sellers telling them I'm interested if I'm not the winner. I've done this when I've forgotten to bid on an item I was interested in!!

I had one underbidder email me and tell me that they would have bid much more, but they didn't because the bidder ahead of them was a Zero feedback new user and he didn't want to be shilled. imageimageimage A total jerk and a moron!
  • I once emailed a seller on an item that closed without any bids. It was a very old set of china that I'd been trying to match for years.
He very courteously replied that I could have the item for his asking price. I accepted, paid and he promptly shipped it.
