ACG outsells all others on Ebay and Yahoo

Isn't that the claim they make in their ads? I'm sure nobody takes their boast seriously any more, unless it was true which would be seriously scary. Doing just a title search in the US coin section for various grading services comes up with the following results.

PCGS 7054 items
NGC 3594 items
ANACS 1134 items
ICG 776 items
NTC 678 items
ACG 445 items

I guess this is what they mean by out selling all others.

The problem is you are only searching titles. Most ACG sellers don't seem to put "ACG" in the auction title. For all I know they don't even put it in the description.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

They probably outsell all the others because their holders don't melt when irradiated during shipping image

I'm not sure, how did you got those numbers? Was it a search of title and descriptions off of ebay? A problem with that is you include raw coins by dealers who include lines similar to "I am a marketmaker for PCGS, NGC, ANACS,ICG" or similar lines that catch the search. Last week I did a title search on Yahoo and got these 432-NGC 223-PCGS 103-ICG 96-PCI 77-ANACS 76-ACG 65-SEGS 31-NTC - so does this say anything? Different listing fees/different commissions. I think the ad omits part of the truth like maybe 'ah-collectibles' sells more ACG than anyone on ebay and yahoo - I guess if you make them you get a discount on submission fees. image On the plus side they have nice slabs that crack-out easy, and on the minus side when resubmitted somewhere else you don't know if they will cross(occasionally), drop 1,2,10,15 or come back bodybaggedimage

ACG is a demonic blight on numismatics.

I just did a title search, doing a description query indeed would have skewed the results for the reason you stated. Also true about sellers not stating ACG in the title.

And yes, the fact that their slabs don't melt during Post Office irradiation is a huge selling point for me. I'm thinking of using them for that reason alone. I've had a lot of my other slabs get melted recently and I'm darn near my wits end!

I agree, I have also had the post office hit my slabs with their phaser banks. I had to cloak
to avoid being hit again. image

  • Problem with that search method is that PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc. pretty much use their initials exclusively when being found in searches.

ACG, on the otherhand, can be frequently listed as:
ACG, Accugrade, Certified, Overgraded, etc. You may have to add the results of these searches together to get an accurate total.

It's unlikely that even adding in all those other search criteria would bring ACG's total anywhere near PCGS's or NGC's total.

It's interesting to note that the order of that list mirrors the answers any time reliability and quality of grading companies is discussed. You forgot SEGS, though.

Auctions in US coins with either "ACG" or "Accugrade" in the title: 447
Auctions in US coins with either "ACG" or "Accugrade" in the description, but not in the title: 1083

Auctions in US coins with the word "Certified" in either the title or the description, but neither contains "pcgs, ici, certified check, segs, icg, ngc, anacs, pci, acg, accugrade": 1389 . Many of those are ACG coins but never mention it.

I think it can be safely concluded that owning an ACG coin is embarrassing and those that do admit it have no shame and those that do admit it and try to sell an ACG slab have no morals image It's like Sodom all over again... image

Thank you for running those numbers thru eBay Tonelover. I too had read their ads and doubted that statement. I ran PCI thru search and came up with 539. Added to Acg, it still does not surpass PCGS. Of course these numbers will be skewered a bit but without an exhaustive analysis of each and every listing, we'll have to settle for this. I'm sure at one time Acg was one of the top sellers one eBay and Yahoo but that was quite some time ago. One other statement in their ad that puzzles me is:
NEVER HAD A MAJOR COMPLAINTG IN COIN WORLD.
#1) I guess a MINOR Complaint is good thing?
#2) Why haven't they fixed this typo? I've seen this misspelling in their ad for some time now. Or is it another language?

And another thing.......if there are X number of ACG slabs on eBay ½ of them don't sell because they don't meet reserve because they are priced according to PCGS's price guide for an accurately graded coin.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Another confounding factor is many PCGS and NGC coins get listed but NOT sold off of that listing. People have a better idea of what it is worth and have reserves or start so that a $300 or $1500 coin doesn't go for lots less.

    Tonelover,

You left out GSA slabs on your poll of E-bay - I'll bet there's even more of them than ACG! LOL image
"spare change? Nahhhhh...never have any...sold it all on E-bay..."

Then again, a lot of sellers say they don't deal with ACG... so that adds more to your searches...
