Lets not be too hard on the coin. We should take into account what the engraver had to work with. From that portrait, poor old Queen Anne was not quite what one would call "a looker" was she?

Ugly british coins can be quite loveable for that reason.

Nope. In the old Britith system, 4 Farthings made a penny, twelve pennies a shilling, and twenty shilling a pound. A farthing was not a lot of money at all!
