Question about SEGS

Is SEGS an OK grading service? I have one SEGS franklin graded MS-64 but it looks cleaned to me. Would they slab a cleaned coin and not put anything on the label metioning the cleaning?

SEGS can be hit and miss on grading. Overall I like them. Best slab. Best customer service (although NGC is giving them a run for the money). Great attribution service.

To me they're better with circulated coins than with uncirculated. As for Franklins (my favorites) I find that in Uncirculated grades they are generally one point or more below the same PCGS grade.

FC57Coins, so what your saying is that if i break out my SEGS MS-64 it would come back a PCGS MS-65?

The other way Mbbiker, your MS64 in my experience with SEGS is probably a PCGS MS63 or possibly less.

SEGS might be hit or miss on grading, at times... BUT... It has been my experience that a MS63/4 is usually a pretty solid MS63/4.

Do they grade cleaned coins or do they know enough to "bodybag" them?

Yes... they grade problem coins, but they put a lil "*" on the label and list the problem(s)

A 1958 graded SEGS MS-64 what would you pay for it?

I dunno.... I dont follow any coins past 1891. If i thought it was a strong 64, I wouldnt have a problem buying in raw or in a SEGS slab
