Gidy with anticipation........

Do any of you feel "gidy" the day before a coin show? I convinced my wife that we need to go out of town this weekend for a coin show because there are never any shows where we live. She agreed! Today though, I have been unusally happy -- I have done some research on prices, printed off a bunch of info from price guides, my "want list" and made numerous Excel spreadsheets up to help me be more organized at the show tomorrow.

I have only been to one other show, and I didn't know what I was doing. It was really impulse buying and I spent more than I should. So, for the past 6 months I have been studying up, and feel a lot more prepared for this show. The wife even said I could spend most of the day there by myself. Yea! image Will have to let know know what I get when I am back.

Good hunting at all the shows this weekend!

I got back from the show late last night. I was able to spend 6 hours there, while the wife went to visit some friends in town. A few things I noticed were the large amount of ANACS slabs compared to any other slabs. I'd have to say it was 10:1 ratio of ANACS slabs to all other slabs. NGC was a distant second, and PCGS third. Since I am starting several Registry Sets, I really was interested in only PCGS slabs. I talked to one dealer about some older slabs that weren't labeled with the company, and he said those were old ACG slabs. Told him I wasn't too interested, and he proceeded to lecture me on how ACG was the "BEST" company out there. His prices were way too high, like a 1954-P Franklink Half PCGS MS64FBL for $120. (ie: I just bought one online for $19.) Needless to say. I did not like his attitude too much.

Did not find many coins I was looking for. I wanted to look at PCGS slabs of Franklins in MS64FBL, Walker Liberty Halves in MS64, and Kennedy halves and Ikes. Only found 1 Walker in PCGS MS64. It was in an old OCGS holder, and when I showed it to several others, everyone agreed that is should be a MS65 and shouldn't have any problem upgrading. I also bought one MS64FLB Franklin and 3 Ike's MS64 and MS65. So I did find 5 slabs I needed. The remaining $ was spent on raw circulated coins for pusing into my Whitman folders for my kids. Overall, I had a great time, just wish there was more PCGS material that I was looking for. I never saw one PCGS Kennedy at all.
