PCGS and NGC Box Dimensions

airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,228 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi,

Could anyone give me the dimensions of the two types of boxes, please? Are the Whitman blue boxes longer or shorter?

Also, I know the new NGC boxes hold all companies- what about PCGS- do they hold most slabs, too? What do they not hold?

Thanks,

Jeremy

  • The current PCGS Blue Box will not hold NGC slabs.

  • I am not sure about the exact size of them, although they are about 9.5 long. There is about a .5 inch of space when I place them side ways in my 10 inch wide saftey deposit box.

They hold NGC slabs, but loosely. They hold ICG slabs well, except for the first and last space, and those are "tight" for some reason.

One thing I do with my PCGS boxes is, I bought "safe release" labels. Then write on them with a sharpie. I placed labels on the lids, as well as one side of the box. When you have more than one box to look through, you can pick the "right" one faster. I also throw in a couple od silicia gel packets in between the slabs, in them. Then about 1-2 a year, I take the packets home and "dry them out" and put them back in.

Now I am slowly changing out my PCGS boxes to the Interscept Double Box System. These fit GREAT in the safty deposit boxes, width wise. I am sure that was a major consideration when the made them.

I hope this helps you image

I can't get the lid on the pcgs box closed with ngc slabs in it.
Anacs slabs just bounce around in it. Icg slabs fit fine. Thats all I have for normal slabs, pcgs, ngc, anacs, icg.
Anacs slabs bounce around in ngc the boxes as well the other fit fine.
I just bought a coin world slab box for my anacs slabs it should be here in a day or two.

Placid- I don't have to take the slabs anywhere most of the time, so rattling isn't really an issue. My problem is that I store my raw in 2x2s in my safe and hadn't many slabs when I got it... now they are stacked and ready to fall, so I want a box that will just hold the slabs upright and more safely.

The anacs slabs are to narrow to fit into both slots on the sides of the pcgs or ngc boxes.
You can put them between two slabs that do fit and they won't fall over but they will lean against the other slabs.

NGC boxes are 10 1/4" long by 3 1/2" high. PCGS blue boxes are a little shorter. I prefer the NGC ones; $3 each right from NGC.

Jeremy- I have an extra PCGS green box I can spare, if you like. I no longer own dozens and dozens of slabs. After the gold set ships off to its new destination, I think I'll be down to five or six for a little while.

Oh, I just remembered- if your safe is big enough to fit a 3-ring binder, I have an extra Eagle slab album, too. The pages fit 9 slabs each, and I have some foam adaptors for the ANACS coins. If you didn't want to use the bulky Eagle binder, you could fit those pages in a regular 3-ring binder. It's kinda nice 'cause you can see the coins all spread out at once. The pages I have are a bit dusty, but in serviceable condition.
