First and foremost, welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have. My time here has been fun and educational, too.
Perhaps to help with the coin picture enclosure, try renaming the file (on your local computer) to use no spaces, symbols or other stuff, like: 18613DolPrincess.jpg, then try uploading it as an attachment.
If that doesn't work, if you'll email it to me, I'll be more than pleased to post it for you. My email address can be found in my profile. (Just click the little blue glasses to the right of any one of my posts.)
How do you like the look of this and how does it reflect the actual look of the coin?

I think the only real way to see the true beauty of a gold coin is to look at it in person. I have a $20.00 and a $5.00 gold and pictures do nothing for them.
All I did with your picture was play around with the contrast, brightness and gamma of the image throughMicrosoft Photo Editor. That's how I lighten up some of my pictures, wheteer from the scanner or digital camera. (I'm not very good with either )
Now, please pardon my rudeness. I would like to extend a hearty welcome to you. I hope you enjoy these boards as much as I have. It is a great place to learn and you can even make some pretty good friendships here.

Do you have a particular area of collecting you are concentrating on right now?

No, just started with a collection my grandfather left me. Gold and A bunch of silver (quarters, Dimes, Half Dollars, and a few Silver Dollars. I really don't know what to look for in coins.
I would recommend getting a couple of books to help you out. The Red Book is a nice starting place, and maybe a photograde book. Those are 2 books I use rather extensively, as well as the advice and input of the board members here.
I'm relatively new to collecting myself. Only been at it for about 2 years. But if there is any way I can help out, just shoot me a PM (click on the pad lock looking thing next to my light bulb).
Good luck with your collection.

And you better be careful. That looks like an awesome coin. It could be quite valuable. Small differences in grade could make a big difference in value. I'd just love to see the rest of your collection.
As to scanners some are better than others. I've finally bought a digital camera and hope to get good images from it.
If the file is too big you might try making two images, one for the obverse, one for the reverse.
One often has the option to compress jpg images. That also reduces size.
Another thing, you can go to the profile and turn on your private messages. The profile tab is up near the navigation bar...
Carl, thanks for welcoming me. I think the $3 is worth a lot, i am thinking of having it graded. A coin dealer near me said something about ms67, i dont know anything about grading. Any sugestions?

It's those terrible $3 gold Princess coins! they may look pretty but you really do not want to collect them nor scan them.
Send them all to me and I will give you a fair price
