Pizza delivery guy just got hit with a two SBA dollars as a tip. Try it, its fun.

He was about 18, and asked what it was. I told him a brief history of the coin and that its worth a dollar.
He was greatful but left with a glazed look on his face, kind of like a deer in headlights. Try it, its fun.

  • I just bought a coffee at Speedway with a Kennedy half. The clerk was still staring at it in a daze as I walked out. image

That's just plain sad that youngsters don't even recognize U.S. coinage.

Youngster's knowledge of basic history is scary. Its the opposite with YN's, they seem to have
a commanding knowledge of history, art, music, economics, etc.

i used some $2 bills in the last week. one clerk in the local grocery store, she was around 18-20, looked panic-stricken for a moment. she swiveled her head around as if searching for her supervisor and then just rang up the sale!! image better yet were the guys at my local coin club. i paid for an auction with 8-$2 bills and one single and they all just laughed at me. too much fun.image

I also have fun with $2 bills. Everyone seems to recognize them. Its the SACS and SBA's that I have
    the most resistance with.

  • Today I visited one of my local banks. I ask a young teller do you have any SBA or SAC? She paused and said no. The teller next to her said I have a few of each,so I got $10 of each from her. At the same time the head teller had walked over to the first young teller and opened her drawer and showed her what they where. She spoke up I HAVE SOME TOO. So it goes to show not even a bank teller knows what types of currency we use. It may be a good thing to take the dollar coins out of the market. Out of the $10 SBA I got a nice 1981 that someone had used from a mint set. So its a chance you take when you ask, Do you have any SBAs or SAC in your drawer? Even though most of the time they go ugh!! whats that..image

The mint produced more 1981 mint sets than they could sell. They actually cut
the coins out of the excess sets and put them in bags. Some of these went into
1980 bags so there is a small chance that the coin was issued by the mint outside
    of a mint set.

i use sba's or sacagaweenies when i buy a sunday paper at the local gas station. in spite of how long i've been doing that, the old boy still confuses the sba w/ a quarter from time to time.

It's not just the youngsters that don't recognize US coins.
There was a senior citizen lady who had a bag of Canadian quarters and wanted to know if she could sell them. Yep, all were State Quarters. It was explained to her and that she could just spend them.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?
