Completed my 20th Century Major Design Set - Saved the best for last

I completed my set in MS64. This is the only toned coin in my set but it's my favorite. Since my set is now complete that can't mean I'm done buying coins can it? Oh good, I can expand into the 12 piece set now. image

Wow! Toned gold is beautiful. I just looked at your set. Like you said, you saved the best for last.

    Good job!

Can you show us the reverse?

  • Very nice. Might have to ratchet the grades down a bit or be patient if buying Type 2 Gold in MS-64, but the extra four pieces for the 12 coin set are pretty cool, in my opinion.

  • Congratulations! I've never seen a gold coin toned like that before.

I like the 12 piece gold type set too. See you over there.
  • Nice coin. Congrats.
  • Outragous 1904!

I have seen some red toning similar to that on some of the modern Gold Eagles after they have been slabbed but not on a classic. Very nice looking coin. Congratulations on your set also. The 12 coin set is even more fun! That ~*@#&*% Type 2 $1 can be tuff!!!image

  • I see you breathing down my neck Larry. Since I blew my budget on a 20 cent proof I am out of the running for a long time. One more upgrade and you'll bump me down!

Both Carl and daBigK both have great sets - you need to add pictures.

    Thanks for the reverse.

For US coinage reverses, I place it in the top 3.

Well, congrats. You were as good as your word. Your flush of 64's trumps my flush of 63's any day.

(A moot point since my set isn't really my set, anymore, as of yesterday. Got the check in the mail. Off to shop for colorful proof Seated stuff and perhaps a 2c piece or two, as soon as my gold is comfortably ensconced in its new home.)

I'm gonna leave mine up for the moment, but it'll probably be retired when it safely reaches its new owner. This was a fun little set to do, and I might have another go at it one day. This set taught me to like short sets. It's the only way a guy on my budget can effectively compete, probably. The 2c proofs are an appealingly short set off the beaten path, and in the 19th century, which is where I wanna be.

Carl- please share a picture of your 2c proof- that's another coin on my "some day" wishlist.

(Edit: I've got proof 2 cent pieces on the brain, LOL. I meant a picture of your 20 cent proof.) image

  • Once I get my new camera figured out I'll post pictures of both my 20 cent AND my 2 cent proofs.
