Question- Jefferson proofs vs. business strikes

On some of my Jeff proofs, I see much less hair detail than on their business strike counterparts. If they are struck with more pressure, wouldn't the detail be greater on the proof?

  • Are they the same year? The current proofs have more hair detail than older ones, I assume due to minor changes in the design.

Just depends on the year. Some of the years they abused the dies and wore the high points down, ie the hair significantly. You could just have an early die state on ms coin, with mid or later on the proof. But yes, generally the proofs should be better struck.

Thanks guys... they might have been different dates (I think I was comparing a circ. coin [2000ish] to a 60s proof image) Lesson learned- don't be stupid image (I just looked at a 1987 proof and it made my all better inside)
