Recent Lincoln cent die variety discovery

I'll post this and see how it goes...I was excited about it.

A couple of weeks ago I received a package for attribution that included a 1928P cent with the caption, "2 - 3 eyelids." For those who may not know about the more minor side of the Lincoln cent doubled die, when the hub is offset to the die during an early hubbing, there's a tendancy for the eye to come out doubled. This is quite common in some years of cents, but for a 1928P to be reported is quite a story. I know, I know, it's really minor for some of you folks out there, but that's what some of us get into! Finding the small detail that makes a conversation piece out of an otherwise normal coin, and the thrill of the hunt of actually trying to run into another one like it.

  • That's a really neat clash on the rim...you don't see those everyday!
  • That's interesting Chuck. I'll have to recheck mine. I doubt I would have missed the clash, but those doubled eyelids seem to elude me. Congrats on the discovery!
