1960 Topps Baseball question??!!

Good Evening All!

OK...so here is the scoop...

I pick up two beautiful 60 Topps singles...a Yaz RC and a McCovey RC.
both are strong candidates for PSA 8's (having worked on a 63 Topps PSA 8 set I have a decent eye for 8's)

Needless to say...they both come back 7's
a few thoughts immediately go thru my head.

First...sell them and hope to break even
Second...crack em open and resubmit
Third and most costly..."HEY...I may as well go for a 1960 Topps PSA 7 set!!"

what do you guys think?
does anyone a good history/story on 60 Topps Baseball singles? Davalillo?

thanks again
Brian

Hi Brian...I'd resubmit them. Check for centering [front and back], corners [including back under hi power mag] and print dots, and if you still feel they're "8"'s, send them back in. I've had many cards upgraded on resubmission.

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
  • I haven't had any experience with resubmitting cards, but I do have experience with the 60T set. If you have the money, go for the 8 set. Nothin like a gorgeous 8 set. The market is soft (and getting softer with impending war) so 8s should be easy to land in the next few months.

However, I've started to downgrade many of my sets (esp. 1950 Bowmans). In the long term, it's more affordable and just as nice as the higher end sets. Everytime I land a high end 8 or 9, I eventually feel like selling it to make money for more purchases!

    Anyways, my 2 cents.

    baseballizlife1,

When you say that you have a good eye for 8's...how do you/did you evaluate the cards? Many of the cards that I have in 7's look just like 8's when I eyeball them...under 10X magnification, it's a different story most times. It's difficult to give advice on what to do without seeing the cards under a 10 X loupe.

    Regards,

    Alan
  • Thanks for the advice on the 60's...up in the air...but have some ideas now.

    Alan...
as for "eyeing up the 8's"...I do not use a scope at all...(I really should...but I dont)...I have had luck in the past...but only with 63's coming back what I expected.
They should be back in my hands in the next couple days and I will take a solid look at them and rethink my options. I am also gonna pick up a nice scope to take a closer look. Thank you for the ideas.

    take care everyone!
    Brian

The grading companies do use magnification, black lights, and voodoo as they evaluate the cards...I would do my best to evaluate them under a 10X before breaking them out.

Psa graders do not use magnification as a standard course (as i have been told on a couple occasions) they do use 10x loupes for a closer look when something looks "iffy" or if they are "stuck on the 7-8 fence", same for the blacklight and voodoo, only when they see something funky. SGc does use magnification as a part of the standard process (at least I have been told this).
