Having to resort to buying my '02 silver proof sets from the mint!

You guys had a good idea as to get good hand-picked silver proof sets from your dealer as to not have to do the return/exchange/postage game from the mint.......BUT.....the overhead my local dealer is charging for his sets ($39.99) is making me have to just resort to ordering my 3 sets from the mint and taking my chances on the quality I will be getting!image

IF he was only asking a couple dollars more for the sets, it might be worth supporting him....but to me that price is just a little too much. What are your experiences/opinions?

I did, however buy a 2 piece commemorative set and some supplies and other stuff, so he did atleast get $75 out of me (better than the nothing I was going to spend after he told me his price on the silver proof sets)!

The sets are $31.95, plus $3.95 shipping from the mint. You think four bucks or so is too much for the chance to cherry pick the good ones? I can only wish I had a local dealer with them at $39.99. I wouldn't be spending the junk I got from the mint at the grocery store.

My sentiments exactly, Russ....except that my dealer often doesn't even carry any more than a set or two at a time unless it's getting closer to Christmas. What ever happened to the day when you could get a set from the mint for under $10? This $35 a set is going to drive us all to the poor house to keep up! And they wonder why demand for modern commens is down??

  • Russ- He doesn't really make you feel so good if you do want to "cherry pick" his sets.....you kind of take what you are given or maybe a 2nd choice and that's it. The point is though---- if I bought his sets at $8 more per set that would be $24 more-----subtract the $4 for s&h that I would have paid from the mint and that would be $20 overspent. I could almost buy one more set at those prices. It's a matter of quantity vs quality and for us guys that don't corner the market on thousands of '64 proof sets, I just can't do that!imageimage Gonna just have to take my chances with the mint!
