Yeah, I have a problem with it....two parts of the title are lies. "rare" and "1936". They can be minted (by law) in any quantity since they are silver rounds, and they were made in 2002, not 1936. Value, a lucky $15....actual value - silver melt, but they are pretty nice looking.

I hope the bidder read the part where it says

<< <i>This beautiful rarely seen coin has now been reproduced almost identical to the original >>

or he's going to be sorry. What did these sell for originally? The copies not the real ones.

I read the same type of hype with modern coins all the time. No reason to have a problem here.

Don't you just love the self-proclaimed "Ebay Police" that think they are the court appointed advocates for those Ebay buyers with an IQ of 49??

What the heck do you want Morris??? The seller clearly states the coin is a "reproduced piece" that is selling for "a mere fraction of the cost compared to an original proof". He also states "the N.C. Mint announces a limited release of". Only a bonehead would think this auction is for anything but a reproduction coin. Only another bonehead would try and make an issue of this auction.

Actually I was just referring to the 2-4 weeks delivery. But if you read fully the fact that rare is used with this without a substantiated mintage and no pic of coa is a little annoying. But nothing out of the ebay "rarity" norm.

What about those self-proclaimed CU Forum police, that think they have the right to shoot anyone with an opinion differing than theirs. Gotta lov'em.

i think i'd lump it in there with all the ones that say "not PCGS" and stuff like that. what's it called, spam? the seller knows noone will find the auction by any search so they get you there on false pretense. therein lies the aggravation factor. i'll bet, morris, that's what prompted the thread, 'eh? when i get misdirected like that enough it can rattle my cage!!!image

hey DCAMFRANK-----to quote june cleaver, you were a little rough on the beaver!!! why don't you open up your PM function and your profile so we can take a look at you and chat one-on-one?

Unless the delivery time is specified, there is a Federal regulation that says the item has to be delivered in a reasonable amount of time.

By listing 2-4 weeks, he's allowing for unexpected delays and trying to cut down on questions and complaints.

Every mail order form says allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. They know they can turn the order around in 2-3 weeks, but they don't have as many calls after 2 weeks asking where the order is.

His feedback says he ships fast so it's there for the exception - not the rule. I don't know if it scares anybody away or not.

    Morris-
I've purchased plenty of raw Proof Silver Eagles on Ebay. Virtually all of the auctions described the coin as coming with original box and COA. I never one time remember seeing one of those auctions having a scan/picture of the Certificate of Authenticity. Do you plan to place a thread on the Forum everytime someone lists one of those auctions???? I've never found an auction without a scan of the COA to be "annoying". Seems you are the only one to find it to be so.

I wouldn't know and really wouldn't care how "rare" the coin is. Most people buying clearly labeled "reproduction" coins aren't real concerned with the rarity factor. A potential bidder can always as the buyer for the actual mintage figures.

Keets- These childish little threads created with no other reason than to ridicule a seller are totally pointless and a complete waste of everyone's time. Perhaps its time to put an end to them.
  • It could be worse. The title is misleading, but the description states that it is a reproduction of the 1936 original. I'm curious about the 2-4 weeks wait time for delivery, though. Did these coins come out yet?

As for value, I don't know. Over $50 (incl. S&H) is a lot for an ounce of silver. IMO

the obvious solution is to not read/post to them. to harangue a haranguer never proves to be effective. as a side note, i had to pause there for a minute to think of a clever way to use the word orangutan in the sentence, but to no avail. now that i look at the two words, they don't even rhyme!!image

now that this thread has grown, it appears morris should be flogged for having been vague in his opening post as to what bothered him about the listing. it seems several of us have found differing irritants, none of which are the intended subject of morris' original harangue. bailif, whack his pee-pee!!!

My apologies to all for my lack of explanation at the beginning. I had never seen anyone offer the information on how long shipping will be, especially when it is 2-4 weeks. I understand as with most mail order and tv bought products they say "please allow 4-6 weeks" or whatever for delivery, but I assume that is because they are taking thousands upon thousands of orders. I mean this guy only has 24 items up with 3 items currently bid on...so why the 2-4 weeks. I guess what I was after, regardless of the item, would anyone bid on it knowing possibly that it could take 2-4 weeks to receive the item.

    oh well, no bid whup!

I don't wish to sound like the eBay police but I do have an honest question about eBay categories. This item is listed under Early US Commemorative Coins. Is there, or should there be, a category for US Coin Replicas, Copies and Private Mint Issues? Am I being to picky to see these mis-categorized as US Coins when they are not issued by the US Government?
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • It's in the wrong category. Another attempt at deception, but not very clever.

this auction is a textbook example of keyword spamming. also a good exaple of why eBay's safe harbor is anything but.
