coppercoins - an introduction

evening folks,
I thought I might take a single topic on the board to introduce myself and what I do, since I have already posted nearly two dozen times without the courtesy of doing so. My name is Chuck, nd from my signature block I guess you can see that I own and work on coppercoins.com.
Just a little about myself - I live in Missouri, am 34 years old, and collect copper, mainly Lincoln cents - specifically the die varieties of the Lincoln cent. I do not collect errors, I guess suffice to say I am definately a specialist. I started collecting when I was 6 years old, and got involved in the die varieties of the Lincoln cent at the age of 15.
I am currently working on the site, my endeavors as a numismatic writer and photographer, and found this group pretty much by accident, but am happy I did. I can answer most questions Lincoln cent related, and know a bit about the other coins from the US as well. That ends my spiel, I just thought some might wonder who this new character was showing up in the posts. Have a good one!

While I don't collect much copper, I did take a look at your site and it looks
great! It's easy to see that you've put a lot of effort into building it.
I am from the KC area, and will probably go to the Lenexa show, so maybe
see you there!
Keep up the good work!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Welcome to the boards. I am another Lincoln collector here but just the regular issues - there are enough of them without getting in to all the varieties! I've had your site bookmarked for a while now and enjoy it immensely. One day we'll have to talk about those little white letters on the black background - makes it hard for these tired eyes to read after a long day! But your site is very informative and well laid out otherwise. Congrats on your hard work and again, welcome to our little home here. I'm sure your variety and Lincoln knowledge will be beneficial to all of us. Dave
As for the web site and how it's set up, I did the dark background because I'm a night person and the darker backgrounds lend well to my darker room when I'm working. As for lighter colored text on that dark background, well, I personally like it that way, it would take a month or more to change it on every page, and if it were changed I would inescapably get comments and complaints that people didn't like the change. I have found out one thing is definately true over the three years I've been working on the site. You definately can't please everyone no matter what you do. There isn't a web site in the world that everyone who views it likes it completely.
As for developments on the site and my participation here, I will be in here for at least a bit every day looking for subjects I can help in or comment on, and when possible, if it's not a detriment to the whole around here, I'll give periodic updates on what's going on "over there" - given that I wouldn't be considered a spammer for advertising a different site in this forum. The purpose, actually, would be to enlighten those who may not know that there is an entirely different way to view coin collecting that's just as fun as the generalist way of collecting, and to give people a chance to open up a bit about it and discuss it. I have found there are a lot of people who have at least a cursory interest in it but are afraid to speak up or ask questions for fear of using improper terms or showing they know little about the subject. That's where I come in for those people. I am willing to field any questions and give my best shot at educating everyone and have some fun doing it. Isn't that what this is all about anyway?

This is the famous Coopercoins!
I want you to know that this guy knows more about Lincoln varieties than must of us know about our spouses! He is also a super-nice guy, who has a website prolific with facts about Lincolns (I've referred people to his site frequently here). He is also super generous with all of his knowledge.
He fashioned a tremendous proposal for the Texas state quarter, by the way. What a shame it wasn't adopted!
You will find this guy a tremendous asset to the Boards.
Welcome, Chuck! Great to see you again!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
When you renovated the site and went head first into cataloging & imaging Lincoln varieties en mass, I started watching more closely. I found that to be about as ambitious an online numismatic project as there is. Not to mention the other series. As the site progresses it'll be a source for many answers to posts here.
It got me to pull out the 1960 d/d Lincoln I found in change many years ago for another look.
Thanks for contributing.
Really, I do appreciate the warm welcome, and will do my best to live up to the reputation I must be carrying. I never imagined the response my message would receive, I can assure you that wasn't the purpose in posting it. But at least now I know that most of you know where I'm coming from and what I like doing most....sharing!

You deserve it. You will never wear out your welcome out here. There are some outstanding and extremely knowledgeable collectors as well as dealers right here. The best of both.
By the way, wasn't it the Missouri Quarter you did a fantastic design on? I don't recall a Texas one?
Anyway, hope to see you lots here and will still visit your chat when we need to have one of our long chats!
