SEGS does not compare to PCGS and NGC.
Its like comparing a Fiat to an Acura.

Lets try comparing Coke or Pepsi , to Sams cola. I tried it once, I hated it.
Sorry to fans of SEGS or Sams cola.

  • So because SEGS doesnt carry the weight PCGS or NGC do you shouldnt buy their coins or submit to them? Well, ill keep getting great bargains in SEGS holder than.. Thanks for making it that much easier on me image

Kory is right. Just because they are a bit loose doesn't mean not to buy SEGS. Just look more carefully.

SEGS = Sovereign Entities Grading Service.

SEGS is a second-tier service known for overgrading coins somewhat, but they are nowhere near ACG for sheer idiocy- they actually do know something about coins. They have nice holders and good customer service, and are not bad. I would put them at #4, behind ANACS. Their reputation ain't the best, but I would choose them over PCI in a heartbeat. When I realized the slight stigma attached to them, I switched to ANACS for my less expensive and world coins.

They are not bad in my book. I would like to see their reputation improve somewhat. Until then, I'll stick with the Big Three.

My personal opinion of certain American grading services:

    #1- PCGS
    #2- NGC (very close behind).
    #3- ANACS
    #4- SEGS
#5- PCI (with a slight preference for Hallmark, who they bought out, I think)
#6- INS (International Numismatic Soceity- not sure they are even still grading)
    #7- anybody else (fuhgeddaboutit)
    #2,347,098- ACG

i happen to dislike what acura puts out there!

what segs offers is absolutely no different than pcgs and ngc, which is an OPINION on the grades of coins.
